Bravo Apologizes For Disrespectful Scenes in Last Weeks Long Island Princesses Episode

I have tweeted several times about the controversy surrounding Bravo’s new show, Princesses: Long Island. Each time several people ask what is going on. So if you need to get caught up start here . As I posted here, three of the princesses were scheduled to be on WWHL tonight but there was a last-minute to replace them. So it was interesting to see what if anything would happen tonight. I am just about to begin my Princesses blog and just before the show starts, Bravo posted the following message.

Bravo deeply regrets the inclusion of a scene disrespecting a 9/11 hero in last week’s episode. We have removed the footage from the program. Our thoughts are with those who lost their lives on 9/11 (editors note: dead people don’t have thoughts, but their families do) as well as the firefighters who risk their lives every day. For more information please visit, www.tributewtc.org

While that was a nice gesture, I think the protestors will continue their quest to have the show cancelled. With only four shows left, I doubt that will happen. However, due to the numerous controversies around this show, I am doubtful about a second season. What do y’all think?

Even without this 9/11 controversy…I just don’t see how this could come back. It’s awful!!! But yeah, I still watch it…only because my father is jewish and I was raised within the jewish culture, so I find some of it funny, but these girls are just shallow and annoying. Ashlee is the absolute worst, but I love her denim cut offs/big gold chain wearing dad!

WOW! I only watched this stupid show once. Such ugly girls inside and out. I delete TT when it is something other than RH. But spotted the TT post on Andy Fan facebook post. Then I read the facebook boycott page and background info. Holy crap, Bravo has reached an all-time low. At least they are now responding to public outcry. Thanx for bringing this to my attention and adding the details.

I am on an Andy Fan Facebook post? WOW! And I thought the spike in readership tonight was because of my fabulous blogging. 🙁

You know, I have basically given up on watching anything on Bravo these days, (ok, I did watch Below Deck..) I get all of my information from reading blogs, especially this one! While I have only seen a few minutes of this truly dumb show, I just don’t get why the head honchos think this type of shit is a good idea!! These girls are truly disgusting. It is a shame that Bravo has gone there. They seem to have ruined a good thing with these reality shows.

Honestly the fact that Bravo apologized means nothing to me. That should never have been shown. They should have known better than to demean and belittle something that affected Every. Single. Person. who lives in this country. They should be ashamed of themselves.

I am fast getting to that point as well. It began with Teresa and Joe Guidice and Kim D, and then continued with Gretchen and Tamara on the OC. I used to watch alot of Bravo, but now only watch NJ (and if the Manzos, Gorgas, and Walkilies left, I would never watch; I don’t even know if I can hang in much longer with Kim D and Teresa, they literally make my skin crawl) and have only watched a few of the OC. At this point, I am looking at cutting out all but NJ (as long as I can tolerate the above named trash), Beverly Hills, and Top Chef.

Idk, I think this show is crap because it showcases spoiled girls like we should like or care about them. Pretty much like most of Bravo shows now. But I don’t think you can blame the show for showing how crappy a person is, that was the girls’ own stupidity. I do think if they do things that are so offensive that Bravo truly doesn’t agree with, Bravo needs to remove the offenders from the show. Actions speak louder than statements, Bravo…Remember the old days when if you got in physical altercations or threatened someone on tv you automatically got booted? That’s gone now, like RHONJ or RHOA, or even The Real World, where they smack and brawl and still get paid.

Much as they trumpet the contrary, these shows aren’t documentaries. There’s no journalistic imperative here to tell some compelling truth. In each case, a production staff makes deliberate conceptual decisions about what gets filmed and editorial decisions as to what gets shown. And then a programming department approves what gets aired. That no one in the latter group had any response to this kind of vile content until AFTER there was broad-based public outrage tells you everything you need to know about what drives the engines of the Bravo Network.

Did the apology mention how many programming execs lost their jobs because of this incident?

Like I’ve said, even without the horrific 9/11 disrespect (ugh ugh ugh) the disrespect to Judaism (the awful Shabbat dinner, etc, etc), the “stardom” of irresponsible women who are a burden to their parents and have terrible manners, the inaccurate depiction of entire communities… Makes this show loathsome.
Compare it to RHOBH. I find that one a guilty pleasure. Love the glam. With Taylor and Adrienne gone (and I wouldn’t miss Kyle and Kim either), its just pure, rose-colored fun.

Also, it seems like bravo took a decent concept and once they had success with it, say OC or others, keeps throwing similar shows out there and in the frenzy the results are shittier and shittier. The product is diluted.
