Jodi Arias Deliberations Continue…

Thanks to Lurker Jen for this photo. :)
Thanks to Lurker Jen for this photo. 🙂

It’s another day the never-ending Jodi Arias trial. It seems each and every day there is something unexpected that happens. I am out of guesses about what will happen today.  Yesterday the jury sent a note to the judge, details below.

Yesterday, the jury sent a handwritten note on an official question form to the judge. It said: “If the jury is unable to come to a unanimous decision @ this stage, do we notify the judge of this on the form (verdict) or do we just tell the judge her instruction on the bottom P. 10 on the final jury Instruction-Penalty phase?”

It was signed by juror No.18. (source Michael Kiefer) Go to link, it’s good.

Sounds like the one we call “The Artist” is the Foreman! See Info on #18 and other jurors here.

I update the most important events IN THE POST so please refresh your page often and check here for major updates. General chatter and minor updates can be found in comments.

JA’s interviews the other night was payback for TA’s brother Steven saying he never wants to see his brother’s murderer again. JA will not go quietly. She’s pure evil and will continue taunting TA’s family.

Although deliberations were set to start at 10 their time, the first jurors arrived at 9 am and they were all there by 9:50. Deliberations have begun ten minutes early.

Something started early in this trial? It’s a miracle! Let’s hope for a sentence!

@popcornandvodka, I for one wont feel sad when this is over. Tired of JA manipulating (in various ways) all events to revolve around HER and taking responsibilty for NOTHING. I do believe she is sick AND evil. If this jury makes a decision today I think it will be LWOP. Will be surprised if they give her death. And like you I also wont miss JVM screeching all day. This woman practically “foams” at the mouth, she is so hyper. She needs to rest. lol

Yes, sick and evil is correct. I think sociopaths are the definition of what “evil” really is.
I’m against the death penalty for many reasons not related to this case, but Jodi is an example of one who absolutely deserves it. But I hope people realize that a LWOP verdict is not really a loss… she was found guilty, and as long as she never gets out, I think justice will have been served. Her life is going to be a lot different than she seems to believe it will be… there are not going to be any book of the month clubs where she’s going, haha. I don’t really see her surviving actual prison for very long. I say let her spend the rest of her “long life” just trying to live to the next day.

I’m not seeing this as a statement that they are deadlocked like everyone on HLN is saying. It says “IF”. I think that’s huge. I think that shows that they are just double checking the rules and correct format. This jury has been through so much. I can’t imagine them not seeing it through to the end at this point. They clearly take it very, very seriously and I think they were just being thorough and seeking clarification.

I hadn’t seen the actual text of the note until this post TT, so thank you. All day yesterday HLN was saying how the jury was deadlocked. Im not convinced at all that they are. At least, I hope not :/

Both of her hands were rapid and spread open back and forth rapidly like putting eggs in one basket – explaning – while Jodi held intense concentration to those explanations. I need a nap – then I know the jury will come out. ? Would it be worse if the DP jurors give into the Life jurors ?

Technically ~ Jodi has not yet been declared a Convicted Felon for PreM. Murder in the first – TILL the penalty phase is complete…! So there goes my “she’s been convicted” arguments. And Jodi can actually change her stragegy for any new jury arguements should this jury be dismissed. ~ This keeps up ($) I wont have cable TV to watch anything on.

Okay, this is purely conjecture on my part. Before I say this, I want to mention that I have a bit of a hearing problem. I can hear fine, but if there is a lot of background noise I often have trouble blocking out the extraneous noise. I compensate for this with some lip reading. I am NOT a lip reader per se, but I do watch the speakers lips in places where other conversations are going on all around me.

I have had a lot of trouble reading Jodi’s in this case. But just now, I thought I was able to. Again CONJECTURE.

That said, it seemed to me like in the conversation with Jodi and Wilmott, it seemed like Jodi said, “If the jury is hung, don’t they let me have to plea out?” Wilmott responds, Jodi appeared TO ME to say “That’s bullshit” I have now forgotten the third thing she said. I backed up but they don’t show all the conversations she was having with Wilmott. In the first one she asked her, “Don’t they have to let me?” Then the judge does her thing and they go back to talking, Jodi says she understands. Then again asks “don’t they have to let me?” It seems to me like Wilmott was going over the possibilities of what will happen if the jury is hung.

Also after reviewing the tape many times, Juan does not look like a happy camper.

    I’m thinking they are hung.

It’s lunchtime. Reports were that most if not all jurors were carrying in lunch today. When the jury goes to lunch, court personnel tell the media so they can break for lunch. This has not happened so it looks like they jury will work through lunch. Thus the media is afraid to leave for lunch themselves.

Even though the jurors do not know about JA’s antics and interviews, Judge Stephens certainly does. If push comes to shove, and it’s up to the judge to decide LWOP or LWP after all other avenues have been exhausted, I would hope that Judge Stephens gives her LWOP, because she has seen and heard it all.

ok this is really hard to figure! Juan didn’t look particularly happy while they were in the courtroom-but neither did Nurmi. Wilmot was so animated talking to Jodi that I got the feeling that she was talking as fast as she could to prevent Jodi from flipping out due to the content of the juror question.
Now Jinkasaurus is saying the court officers are telling the media probably has an hour to get lunch, but after that time, they should probably send someone to bring lunch back for them! Does that mean that there will be a verdict in about an hour..???

Okay, we know the attys and the defendant know the question. I believe that the FAMILY of Travis would be allowed to be told. So they likely know. Chris Hughes is with the family. He tweeted this.

    Chris Hughes ‏@cshughes 1h
We don’t know what the jury question is, but I feel everything is fine.

While he specifically says “we don’t know the question” I don’t believe him and I’m optimistic about the second half of his tweet.

Can you believe she barely knows anything about this trial??? What’s up with that? My library books are late and I have spent so much time on the computer lately that I haven’t read all of them. The jury I worked on was offered some evidence on the table in the jury room, and we could ask for other pieces of evidence if needed. A tape was played in court but the live witness from the tape testified differently. We asked for the tape; the judge said no. I wrote back that the photos were evidence and we needed to hear the tape again, all of this was in writing. After 30 minutes, we heard the tape. I later learned that both sets of lawyers threw down in court arguing about it. This may be like the jury questions that Judge Stephens is getting and she is sealing them so there are no leaks of how they are leaning.

Question or potential verdict? Interesting. I just hope it’s not “we’re hung crap” I personally cannot see anything redeeming about Jodi. If some of them can, fine. But, I cannot and I’d have no problem sentencing her accordingly. Besides, her mitigation factors did not trump the aggravating factors.

So, there’s no question to me. However, to each her own…..I don’t fault them for whatever they decide b/c with M1 she’s cooked either way…. I just hope this is a lesson for potential jurors — not to say they can put someone to death if they are not 100 percent sure – or if they are the more softer or weaker types….

Just occured to me…even if Travis’ Killer gets LWOP as opposed to DP, while she will initially think “I won, I convinced the jury afterall, beat Juan Martinez” etc…that feeling will melt away once she gets to prison and settles in to her new home for the next 50 years (hopefully). I guess I am feeling more peace with this outcome and ultimately what it really means for Travis’ Killer, she just doesn’t get it and that’s her problem.

The security has been downplaying what is going on. Perhaps to get everyone here before the hysterical lynch mob forms outside. They are supposed to give media an hour alert on a verdict. That is a courtesy though and not a requirement and in this case, the lack of alert could be a crowd control measure.

I’m a little concerned that this may be a hung jury verdict. It’s obviously not a question, but they really should be calling “Verdict!” if that’s what it is. For me, a hung jury is the great loss – especially for Travis’s family. Even the thought of what this would cost the state of Arizona, all for that waste of human flesh, makes me sick. Good grief, if you can’t agree on death just give her LWOP, don’t put everyone through all this again. Well, those are my thoughts.

I think they knew it was probably a hung jury because of the strange way it was being processed. If you watch wilmott you can see her look really puzzled when they start to read the “no verdict”. It almost sounds like a verdict because they start out by saying “we have reached a verdict”. Then when it continues with “of no unanimous verdict” wilmott gets a smile. They knew.

Everyone would have pulled out their concealed and carry weapons and made those bastards little red splats on the sidewalk. TT and docwall, thank you soooo very much for throwing the British soldier massacre up in the face of this self righteous UK poster. I was appalled & thoroughly sickened by this vicious act of barbarism.

Last night I reached my saturation point. Not only by the brutality of the act itself, but by the nonchalance of bystanders, probably during, but most certainly immediately following this mutalation. One woman, pushing a cart, passed the bloodied, knife & clever holding murderer, without so much as a grimace on her face. Nothing. Totally devoid of any emotion. How can it be that we’ve come to this?

So, I guess I appreciate, or at least understand, how upset some are with this non verdict. At least there is some real emotion within the commenters here. That’s better than the alternative, don’t you think?

I do thank the jurors for their many sacrifices. If it had been me answering that jury summons, I would have checked off the box about being of sound mind & good moral character 🙂

It won’t be like that for her for another 3-5 years after she gets there. Maybe walking in if they walk her by a yard. But she will be in a death row ready cell as is EVERYONE who goes in until parceled out. Most stay there a few days (on non violent charges and short stays) Jodi’s sentence will keep her there for 3-5 years before she can earn a lower level of security. Even then, it’s a hellhole at even the kindest levels she will never reach.

Changed out Wendy Ariano’s(sp) door and took away the bottom half of her door which had been clear and replaced it with something she can’t see through. The woman listed above is on death row and has a fb page to get her a new trial. One of her visitors posted the info on that page. I don’t know, but since her next hearing is a month away and will probably be very legalistic and not very long. So I must assume that the county will tell the state to take her. That will be the most hope I have for now. This is why she did all those interviews the other night. She KNEW that she wouldn’t have another chance.

The thing is, because the retrial deal has to go forward in PHX they will most likely keep her on lockdown in Estrella because during trial she would need to be near the courtroom.

Then the attys can debrief the jury on things like the split and the issues. Then they can speak to the media once released or they can go home and shower and cry before talking to media later. We might hear from them tonight or they may need some time to decompress.

As for what happens next, it is not up to Juan, it is up to the County ATTY, that is his boss, and he takes marching orders from the victims family for the most part. If the family wants to try to get another jury the CA will usually abide by their wishes. It will likely take six months to even find another location and jury…

Nancy Grace is practically hyperventilating, which is annoying in itself, but she’s making it seem as though the entire trial has to be done over. Jodi is guilty of 1st degree murder, and the aggravator was agreed on-that won’t change. All that is to be decided is her sentence. I wonder if Juan will agree to offer her LWOP just to spare the Alexander family more misery and heartache.

I do not believe in the death penalty for anyone – ever. And yes I have thought long and hard about what if it were my family member. I wonder if someone on the jury really has felt this way all along but still sat on the jury.

There was a time when I thought I could sit on a jury with the death penalty as an option and be objective but I know myself better now.

Also just at a new jury will have seen how JA acted – JA will also now know what to say and what not to say – and will be better coached for the next time.

HLN just said jury will NOT talk. Names will be sealed.

i have to say that, for me, DP is just fine………..especially comforting here is knowing that she did do this crime, admits to it………..perhaps seeing death, being with people as they have died as an RN and now, putting animals to sleep, affects me greatly on my perspective. Rare has it been that i ever put an animal down for aggression, but i have had to do this for the safety of others. More often, euthanasia has been a loving choice made to end suffering of an animal in pain. In either case, it is peaceful and always done with a loving hand. Words of love, comforting touch. So I suppose i have difficulty relating to the anxiety that people have about “choosing death”. It is a little strange thinking about putting a human down, but i understand the process medically and that it is easy way to go. I think the worst part for person on death row is simply knowing that “I will die on this day”………I feel for these jurors but am upset that they took oath to follow the law, yet, i cannot understand how they could choose anything but death, if they were following the law..?? perhaps some were battered and could not completely believe that JA truly was not battered..?(loss of objectivity, IMHO)

They have cancelled their press conference. It would be interesting to hear from the people that thought this person was worth redeeming. The person with endearing and redeeming qualities was killed by the person that has none.

There is something positive in this verdict and that is: the people that thought she should get death would not surrender to life.

At least she is STILL stuck with M1 and she will NEVER be able to shake that.

New penalty phase means more info and evidence available to prosecution to present to new jury. JA’s media interviews, for example, also tweets, and anything else she hoped to keep hidden during trial.

For those who had hoped for a unanimous decision in favor of the death penalty, this may be the best thing to get the DP. We may be able to surmise that one or more jurors held out against DP, otherwise it would have be a unanimous decision for LWOP.

New jury, in light of all the formerly restricted evidence that will be now available, may not have any qualms in returning the DP.

I hope some of the jurors will talk to see what happened and where they stand. I’m also interested to see there pictures. Especailly I think juror 16 the one who looks like Jodi’s mother. She was crying and looking down. I wonder if she was the hung person. I know most of them look tired. They have been here for 6 months doing their job. Even the judge couldn’t talk. I didn’t think she would do that. I feel really bad for Travis’s family. I think it will be hard to find 12 new jurors who have no clue about this case. Maybe Juan will do so a plea deal?

That also means enjoying our holiday weekends. It’s parents who pay more attention to these court cases who end up raising more little Jodies. So let’s send out lots of love to Travis’s family and then give our own families even more love! Enjoy all the freedom that Jodi will never ever have again! Don’t let this case eat our souls. Oh and do you ever watch RHOVancouver? (Not actually on right now, airs jan-mar, I think). But there’s an evil, crazy bitch named Jody on that show I despise so much I’m this close to boycotting, but maybe one more season.

I love the site and the folk here and while I am dissapointed that there wasn’t closure for the Alexanders I have great hope that JUAN will come back, renewed, and wreak HAVOC on the forces of evil (Jodi and her minions). Selfishly, I will look forward to the always fun give and take with everyone here on TT. I never did this before and I am thankful. GOSH.

Troy is saying that he talked to Sandy and she says she never left town. Perhaps not. But I am not sure I believe her. Her daughter Angela facebooked that her Mom gets on her nerves while she is at the Grand Canyon. Sure it could have been her on the phone, but if her mom was there waiting, why would she not show up for questions if only to see how her daughter was doing? Every single Alexander family member was there for every question.

I really respect Beth Karas, too – she has a good head on her shoulders and doesn’t get overly emotional – just tells it like it is. Speaking of the Alexanders winning the first 2 rounds – NG had Attorney Alex Sanchez as a guest on her show last night. Maybe you watched it? He said, “Let’s clarify something…….Jodi Arias won, Juan Martinez lost.” What the fuck did JA win? – The rest of her life in a hell hole of a prison with other women as nasty and evil as herself. She may have won round 3, for now, but JM certainly didn’t lose. (not in most people’s eyes) I guess we’ll all have to wait a few more months to see how round 3 plays out.

I’m sorry this site has the words, race, racism and racist banned from comments. It was brought up in THIS CASE. It is brought up about random TV shows and I cannot go through a trial based on that. Everyone likes to label in those situations. My family like many others has intermarried with people from many other countries. Some are of a different race. I can’t do the Zimmerman case. It’s too hard. I will say that I woke up the other morning thinking that I should do it and I could heavily moderate comments. This case has been trying. I think my love for the commenters here may make me reconsider.

I’ve had to fight like a bitch to keep race out of here and I am not sure I can do it again. I tried to go uncensored during the Richard Hinds Trial here http://s17948.p858.sites.pressdns.com//?s=tokyo&search=Go and it did not go well…

I’m sure you’re right and it would probably be very draining for you to moderate posts …and that thought depresses me. I keep hoping that race won’t be such a divisive issue in this country, but this trial probably isn’t going to be the best thing to cure that.
IF you change your mind about covering it, I promise to be here and on my best behavior.

Here is the ENTIRE statement made by the county attorney.

County Attorney Comments on Outcome in State v. Jodi Ann Arias

PHOENIX, AZ (May 23, 2013) – Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery released the following statement in response to the lack of a unanimous decision in the penalty phase of State v. Jodi Ann Arias:

“We appreciate the jury’s work in the guilt and aggravation phases of the trial and now we will assess, based upon available information, what the next steps will be. As of this point in time, the Court has set a Status Conference for June 20 and we will proceed with the intent to retry the penalty phase. Because, for purposes of a jury determination on punishment, this is still a pending matter, there will be no further comment.”

Jane, Methadone Jodi? I hear it doesn’t work, either. I’d rather she was locked away in her cell and throw away the key until her fate is decided. It was really nice when we didn’t have to hear about Casey Anthony for about 2 years.

JA is a fascinating study of human nature and her warped mental gymnastics. In some ways, I can’t wait to see what she does/says next. Too bad someone had to die in the process in order to give all of us voyeurs a glimpse inside a very arrogant, manipulative individual.

          JA trial withdrawal…

Bought a small 6 x 6 greenhouse last week. Tired of running trays of annuals in and out of the house every evening until the weather settles down and decides to stay warm.
Tomato plants get decimated by hail by weird summer storms coming down from the mountains, so now they will stay warm and be protected. First tomato eaten will have a price tag of $1000.00, second will be $500.00, and so on.

Will try carrots for the first time this year. Will let you know how it goes…

LOL at the 1K maters. I was telling myself the same thing, mostly because I am lazy….It would be way cheaper to just get up on Sat morning and go to the farmers market and eat someone elses… But then what would I have to bitch about all summer? I have a mid June birthday and always take a trip and my tomatoes plants are huge. This year I don’t even have anything in the ground. I may cheat and buy ONE of those already fruiting plants full of pesticides… or not.

The carrots took so long to sprout I had given up. We recently had a week on monsoons, and VOILA! I believe those are carrot tops. Maybe. lol.

Less heartbreaking to buy an already large tomato plant. I have neighbours who nurture and baby along their itty-bitty tomato plants, but in the meantime, I have tomatoes just about ready to pick. Neighbours are probably shaking their imaginary fists at me over the fence.

Some news item recently exposed some sellers at Farmer’s Markets going to local grocery stores and buying stock for their stalls, nicely marked up of course, and a sign that reads “Certified Organic”. Can’t trust anyone anymore…
