The Real Housewives of New Jersey on Watch What Happens Live Recap

May 19, 2013 by tamaratattles 62 Comments

RHONJposheOkay, this is a strange show. It’s a one on one with all of the Real Housewives of New Jersey. Only it’s not sequential, or all together, it’s them each talking to Andy about a subject and then the answers are sort of interspersed with each other. It’s two or more sides to a story, and then suddenly there is a new topic, more flip-flopping between interested parties and some video footage in between. It’s rather frantic and disjointed, so this blog will be as well. It’s not exactly a blow-by-blow but it is pretty detailed. I hope it makes sense.

Andy starts with Kathy and asks about growing up with Teresa and Joe as cousins. She said she is older than they are and to her (and Rosie) they were just like little dolls. Teresa was just like Milania. Then, they show that part of Tre’s interview and she says there were long periods of times they did not speak (the two families, I assume). They started speaking again about the time Tre turned 16.

rhonjtreputfirstAndy to Caroline do you remember meeting Teresa? She says Dina worked at the same mall with Tre and they sold makeup. Caroline said Tre was fun and vivacious but she was older and they didn’t interact much. Now back to the Tre interview. Tre says Caroline was Dina’s older sister and she respected her but they did not hang out. We didn’t really hang out until the show.

Andy asks Jacqueline what Tre was like 12 years ago when they first met. Jac says Tre was fun and she made her laugh all the time.  He asks her about meeting Caroline. She said Caroline was great she let me live in her house for six months. Flash to Caroline, same question. She says Jac did not get them at first, it took her a long time to blend in with the pack, but she fits right in now.

Did you know Melissa and Kathy before the show? Caroline says she had seen Melissa in passing with Tre. She said she had heard some bad things about Melissa so she had a wall up with her. Jac says she saw Melissa at a couple of functions but she knew not to get to close to her because she knew how Tre felt about her. Caroline never knew Kathy existed. Melissa’s hair is very light and looks good. Melissa says Caroline is the type not to like you until she likes you, but she did seem to like Joe instantly. Melissa says she met Tre for the first time at her MIL’s house when she went to dinner for the first time. Cut to Tre telling how she welcomed her to this dinner with open arms. Melissa says Tre was nice to her and asked a lot of questions.

CarolineManzoSuddenly, we are back with Caroline and Andy asks her favorite moment of all the seasons and she says “When Albie was dismissed from law school.” That’s kind of random. It taught Albie that he was not alone because he got lots of letters of support. Melissa says she has lots of favorite moments she like to watch, she liked watching the California trip. Watching herself screaming because tadpoles were on her feet. Jac says being silly with Teresa, and going to Italy. Tre says being a New York Times Bestselling Author. And someone finally taught her how to say it. And talks about the table flip. Jac says she felt sucked into that scene. Cut to scene showing it was all Jac getting crazy. Andy brings up Tre pushing him at the reunion.

Back to Melissa, when did things start going badly between you. She says it was before the show right after Antonia was born. She noticed Tre saying thing that were rude, but in a way she was not sure she meant it that way. Tre says she is the kind that if she has something to say to you, she will say it and then for her it is over. But Melissa and Joe hold grudges and don’t get over situations. Andy implies that Tre doesn’t let go of anything either. He brings up #ChristmasCookieGate2010 They rehash the whole thing, I will spare you. But Tre says she wasn’t saying it to be mean, she was saying it so next year she would not bring (cheap, ShopRite) sprinkle cookies. Tre says that Melissa wrote On Display about her.

Back to Jac, when did things go wrong for you and Tre? Jac says that Tre told her she was giving interviews and some were true and some were not and she was worried about Tre. Tre says the Tre going to jail story did not even come from her and that Jac just brought it up to be relevant to the show. Jac said in response, we all have storyline and we all get paid the same so I don’t see how asking if she was okay was a benefit to me. She was the one filming about it on the show, so I asked! Tre says that was their very first fight.

Andy tell Caroline some fans were angry with her for predicting Tre would get a divorce. Caroline says she did not predict a divorce, she said that if Tre got divorced she would capitalize on it, she would write a book and she was right because two weeks later Tre put out a magazine article about it. Caroline feels like nothing is sacred with Teresa. She will sell anything for a buck.

rhonjteresaclassyKathy talks about the Napa trip and how things went wrong. The conversation in the hot tub heard around the world. Tre says Caroline betrayed her on that trip. Caroline says that she realized Tre was not the person she thought she was. Melissa was not involved in that fight, Andy points out, to Melissa. Melissa said she was in a good place with Tre at the time and left with her. Caroline said “these trips are torture.” Andy asks about the infamous Joe phone call at the vineyard. Caroline said she cried when she watched the episode and felt awful for Tre and wished she could have called her. Melissa said the same thing. She cried and felt awful for her despite the fact that by the time she saw it they were in a bad place again. Jac said she felt bad and she sent her a text after the show aired to let her know it was not something she was enjoying. Which of course means Jac was evilly cackling between each push of the butt. Kathy said she felt bad for her, and that no wife wants to hear that about herself. Teresa puts on her pageant smile and says it wasn’t hard for her because it was on TV and she swears to Andy that her husband never calls her “the c word.”  Andy asks how did it feel when he did? Tre says well he didn’t say it to me. Andy says, he said it ABOUT you. Tre says, yeah he said it on the phone, to his driver, I know that is who it was. Oh Tre, you know you don’t believe that. She goes on to say there have been plenty of times she has called him a name to her friends. It was nothing. Andy asks Melissa if she believed the call was from his driver. She says that is a line she is not going to cross. She will not talk about someone else’s marriage. Andy tells Teresa that after the show aired, Joe had a costly amount of making up to do. And Teresa then admits she was upset.

rhonjtreandjaqfinaleMoving on to the Poshe fashion show. Andy asks Teresa if she was surprised by who implicated her in the Melissa set up. AND TERESA KNOWS THE WORD IMPLICATED! I am stunned for a moment. She says that it was Jacqueline that implicated her and that shocked her. I paused on Jac just before she tells Andy that she does still believed Tre was involved with setting up Melissa and she had the liars half smile on her face before getting the proper expression. Kathy also says that she thinks Tre knew something was going to happen. Melissa said she thinks it was a group of people, the people who owned the salon, Kim D and that Teresa knew about it. Tre says all the RHONJ knew something was going to go down, but they didn’t know what. I still believe Tre. Caroline says that the truth is going to come out and she is going to reserve comment for now because it is only going to get me in trouble.

Andy says that Jacqueline looks a little tweaked. That term means something entirely different here in the ghetto, but he is asking about plastic surgery. Jac says she had a tummy tuck and a neck lift. Speaking of how they all look, everyone looks great. Not much of anything to poke fun at. Jacqueline is dressed very…demurely, and Kathy has on too much makeup, but other than that. Everyone looks great.

Melissa says watching the reunion makes you relive it, and it stirs up negativity. Melissa wishes people would argue their points but not try to harm each other with personal attacks, like “you can’t sing.” Melissa hates that people try to ruin each other’s images. Kathy feels bad for talking about Tre’s dad but was beyond angry when Tre talked about her deceased father. Blubber. Pageant dress. Rehash.

Andy asks how much of a storyline is Nick’s autism. Cut to sneak peek of Jac with Nick and the whole autism storyline. I may have to just mute those scenes, I had how Jac makes it seem like a death sentence. It’s not leprosy. I get a parent wanting their child’s path through life to be as smooth as possible but I have taught kids on every end of the autism spectrum, and they are delightful learners. The parents can be assholes, but the kid are great. She is going to show us what parents with a child who has autism go through, she tells Andy. No, Jac, you are going to show us how narcissistic attention whores react to the news that their child requires special attention. I’ve never met a parent of an autistic child who tweets all day. They really don’t have the time. The storyline is how Nick’s development affects Jac.

Kathy says Rosie is on the season a lot. Rosie is making everyone happy this season. Andy asks Melissa about the recent headlines about someone from her past and infidelities… Melissa deflects. Wow. That was the most telling thing on the show. Andy asks about some explosive brawls this season. Clips of the two Joes going at each other at the retreat.  Andy asks Tre if she dreads the brawls coming up. Does it embarrass her? And she says yes. Tre says there are two brawls (the retreat one  and Stilettogate ) and one will embarrass her. That would be the retreat, she didn’t get blood on her hands (literally!) at Stilettogate. That was all Jac.

The season opens with Hurricane Sandy. Wow, Tre’s shore home is TRASHED. Caroline Manzo and her family did A LOT of charity work during that time. I know others did too, but the Manzos went above and beyond, and that includes Jac. Wow, Melissa’s shore how is a disaster too. I mean overturned furniture, missing walls. It’s bad.

Andy hints about the retreat they went on for therapy near the beginning at the show.

In talking about season five Caroline says Tre is an enigma. She wants to hate her but she just can’t. Melissa says Tre is her family and she wants things to work. Andy asks Caroline for a one word description of Season Five. She says “unpredictable” Jac says “it goes full circle” and Kathy says “expect the unexpected” Tre says it is a rollercoaster but fun Teresa is back.

Andy does word association.
He says “Teresa”  Jac says “competitive“, Melissa says “defensive“, Kathy says, “spicy”
He says “Jacqueline” Kathy says “sweet” Caroline says “goofy”  Melissa says “mediator” Teresa sighs deeply, looks down and says… he doesn’t show it.
He says, “Melissa” Jac says “sexy” Tre sighs and looks down saying nothing. Kathy says “fun” Caroline says “sassy.”
He says Caroline  Teresa says Caroline….drifts…Andy says you are taking too long, we get to answer. Melissa says “Matriach,” Kathy says “strong”
Andy says “Kathy”:
Caroline says “Fun” Melissa says “caring” And once again, Teresa can’t do word association because she hasn’t rehearsed her answers.
Andy says “Joe Gorga!” Trying to get Tre to participate. She says “Love him, my brother.” Melissa “Love him” Caroline “sunshine” Jac “full of sex….I mean horny!”

Teresa so could not do the word association. She asks Andy what he would say about her and he says he would say tabletop. She says she doesn’t like that. He says he would say Fabellini and she says she would like that better.

I hate how she pretends that this is a real career/passion and criticizing it is off limits. She’s obviously just doing it for the storyline. Intolerable as the Countess is on NY, at least she never pretended her ‘singing career’ was legit.

Exactly. Nene is the most disliked on her show, but they don’t talk about her ALL THE TIME. They have their own lives, products, etc. The ladies on the RHONJ always talk about Tre, and try to make it seem like she’s the bad guy for everything.

Its funny how Teresa is bullied and attacked when the ladies are all in a group. They all know she lies and has a long fuse. She takes a lot of bull, but, when she snaps they’d better stand back. She quickly goes from 0 to 60. Only Juicy Joe can bring her back. None of the other ladies (for lack of a better term) would be relevant without Teresa. Their lives are extremely boring.

On WWHL, they seemed so nice and calm. We know they were told to tone it down. Many viewers don’t like the violence, especially from crazy Rosie who openly threatened to kill Teresa. They can make the show interesting in other ways.

It’s interesting how NJ has always been about one person. At first it was Danielle and once she left it became the Teresa show. I know this won’t happen but it makes me wonder if the focus would go back to Danielle if Bravo invited her back for a new season…

I’m only half way through now but all this is is rehash, rehash, rehash, and I really don’t want to ever hear about those dang sprinkle cookies ever again.
I was going to state that “normal” families don’t have these huge rifts over sprinkle cookies but then I thought of my own mother’s large Italian family (all girls) and yes, yes there were ALWAYS giant grudges about things like stupid sprinkle cookies. Maybe this is why I hate this particular show and love it at the same time.

In my family, there were certain relatives who were the IN LAWS who were not allowed to host certain events, because they did not know the appropriate family dishes. So I sort of get the sprinkle cookie gate, but really, we would have never had store bought cookies of any kind.

That’s possible TT. I have relatives down in sweet Louisiana who are like that. They are hell bent on making and eating everything from scratch. I’ve visited them for 7-10 days in a row and I couldn’t find a box of cereal, no oatmeal, yogurt, protein bars, nothing. They cook three full meals each day, some healthy, some not. On the upside, they grow their own veggies and fruit. They consider it an insult if someone brings store-bought food to their home or to an event. They is a team of people who do all the cooking and catering.

Some people stick with with the old school trends… some are just…. well… strange for making no exceptions.

Here is the thing; yes, food is important to the Italian people, but just as important is graciousness. Anyone who would criticize a woman that is pregnant with her third child, the other two being little kids, for bringing store bought cookies, is a classless cow, which, coincidentally is how Teresa behaves often. In my Italian family, I have seen the women mix batches of sauce, or fried mushrooms for example, when a sister or sister in law had a less successful batch; also, if someone sees that someone brought something that is not going over as well, they make sure they take some. Hurt feelings are always going to trump having exactly what you want. Besides, there usually is so much food at an Italian get together, no one really sacrifices if someone brings something that is not perfect.

Frankly, Teresa and Melissa are the only two women I can tolerate on the show. Jackie is Caroline’s puppet and sways from one side to the other. Kathy doesn’t know the meaning of family. And Rosie is a psychopath.

I’m so glad they cleared about sprinkle cookie-gate and I strangely understand it and feel like I’m on Teresa’s side. The whole thing seemed sketchy in season three, and it was just a random tiny issue to rehash. But Melissa brought it up and now that it was explained she’s in the wrong once again. I’d throw her cheap Shop Rite cookies in the trash too.

I understood the cookie fight too as not about cookies, it was about effort. Melissa married into a traditional Italian family, then goes to what was probably a big home cooked spread with store cookies she grabbed on the way…big no-no. No effort and no respect. Here, lay these day-old cookies out next to your homemade cannolis and limoncello…uh, no thanks!

It’s not so much that she brought the cheap cookies to me… Anyone can screw up. And yes, that was a bizarre screw up. But my problem with Melissa is that even years later she still keeps with the “what’s the big deal? Teresa’s so mean for not liking my shitty cookies!” Not only does it show that she really really doesn’t get it… But it makes me scared that she bring cheap cookies again! That she still thinks that’s totally acceptable to bring to a meal!

Really; she was pregnant with two additional small children; I am sure she was doing what amounted to more than 60 hours. Pura, don’t be afraid of Italian families; just be sure that you find one that is truly traditional because no matter what you bring, they will respond with grace. Teresa’s family, with the exception of Joey Gorga, is more like white trash.

Oh, I feel ya. I work the same hours. Which is why I think ahead and order something from a professional bakery or caterer. If its my turn to bring dessert for Christmas it’s coming I order it from a professional and have it made to reflect the tastes of the host. Last Christmas I customized a gorgeous assortment of individual desserts from Alons, a favorite here in ATL. It’s actually not TOO pricey, if anyone in the area wants to check it out. It runs 3-5 a person, depending on the choices. I think it ended up being about $150 plus tax/tip? Not bad considering the time it saved and honestly I’m not sure it would have been cheaper to make all that myself. Point is, $10 for old cookies is an insult to the people who worked 2 days to prepare something. Not to mention the cost of it. I imagine T and her mom spend a few hundred on everything.

That being said, it’s not that Melissa made the mistake that makes it so weird. It’s that even after she saw the level if effort from everyone and saw that they felt slighted by it, she doesn’t apologize or even see there’s anything wrong with it. She thinks they should have cherished her shitty cookies and just be glad she brought something. She thinks THEY were in the wrong. I mean…huh? That’s a crazy level of entitlement. If you’re pregnant and you don’t feel like cooking and you bring shitty cookies, you apologize and say you’ll make it up next year. You don’t bring shitty day old grocery store cookies and then say “and you better love them and thank me for it or YOU’RE SELFISH!” I just don’t get her, period.

Wow I really got on a tangent here… Sorry folks! 🙂

I think the appropriate thing to do would have been to thank Melissa for the cookies and then next year tell her exactly what to bring and how to make it or where to buy it. Throwing food away like that is rude.

I agree and it’s petty. BUT, heh heh, both parties look for things to cut the other with and they should stop. Life is short. The kids are watching. Sage advice if I could only do the same all the time my own life would be way more peaceful. I read about these people because it’s like a train wreck but in “reality” it’s all blown up and overplayed for ratings so I take it with a grain of salt. No doubt, the lot of them(all the HW’s), are effed up or they wouldn’t do what they do, especially the ones that already had money and do it for the attention.

Blah, I don’t know why I wrote all that. Have a good day!

Store bought or homemade Teresa would have still thrown them out because she hates Melissa. Next time someone brings something to your home that you don’t like just donate it to a food bank. I sure they would have been very appreciative of cookies store bought or otherwise. Holidays really do bring out the worst in some people.

Princess, no drama – makes for a boring show. However, you are right about Teresa sticking it to Melissa when the opportunity presents itself. I don’t think Teresa actually dislikes Melissa as a person. To Teresa, when Melissa came into Joey’s life, he no longer had time for her. She was no longer #1. Being the youngest of two, he always put her on a pedestal. Now, Melissa is in the top spot. Is Teresa acting as a mature sister, no. If she would just take Joey aside- off camera and tell him exactly how she feels…. I truly believe he would understand. I also believe Joey would make is best effort to spend more quality time with his sister or at least establish a better line of communication. Sometimes it takes just a quick phone call on a regular basis.

Teresa is who she is. She doesn’t admit to anything on camera, if (she feels) it will make her look bad. Personally, I don’t believe she will ever change from that.

I swore I was not going to watch this season. Last season was awful. I don’t mean the fighting because they always fight but they went to a really dark and ugly place with it this time. I think all of them are gross. I used to like pretty much all of them. I could accept their individual failings and narcissism even. They seem like a group of sociopaths.

The only reason I can see for rehashing this kind of silly drama is because Teresa and Melissa have agreed to fight only about stupid, petty things on the show-and not about the serious issues between them-therefore putting it right in Mama Caroline’s wheelhouse for dispensing advice. I really think this is all an agreed upon storyline by Melissa and Teresa, so that Caroline can swoop in and ‘fix’ everything with her tired cliched advice. The rest of the peripheral cast will cluck and comment, but in the end, agree that Mama Caroline is a wise old soul who knows how to solve drama.
That will gloss over the familial tensions (for the show) and maybe sell a few more books for Mama Caroline.
    Count me out.

Back to the sprinkle cookies. Anyone with class would say thank you and be done with it.

Anyone with class wouldn’t show up with Shop Rite sprinkle cookies.

What is Shop Rite? What kind of grocery store is it?

I maybe wrong but I think it is closer to a Walgreens than a grocery store.

Corrado’s is hardly like Shop Rite. It is a great specialty food store – specializing in Italian food. Teresa was classless and can’t seem to get out of her own way.

Corrado’s is nothing special. It’s like a trader’s joe. It’s a grocer with a gimmick. A good gimmick, but still.

Now that’s the truth! I would be mortified bringing Shop Rite desserts to a planned family gathering. If I couldn’t afford something of higher quality I would just bake something myself.

Please sprinkle cookies are just fine for all those children. They wouldn’t know Corrado’s from ShopRite. ShopRite is just a grocery store that is far from “gormet”,Tre didn’t have to be insulted and throw them away. Its was petty.

Okay I just have to state an unpopular opinion but equating “class” with the type of cookies you bring to a party is whack.

I disagree Pura. Bringing a pack of cookies is really “classless”. She should have opted for a couple of bottles of good wine. And, give a reasonable explanation.

Funny that Teresa did not think it was classless when Jac brought them. Teresa is so jealous of Melissa that she will do anything to make others think poorly of her.

bringing store bought cookies-even if they’re italian cookies and wrapped up pretty on a plate-to a family gathering isn’t a mortal sin. I’m sure Teresa is well OVER it, since it happened long ago. I really believe this is just made up ‘light drama’ to give Melissa and Teresa something to ‘make up’ over. So all you people who think it shows how classless Teresa is should consider that she is willing to look petty and small for the sake of not bringing the REAL drama about Melissa to the show, thus sparing Melissa, Joe, the senior Gorgas and the little Gorgas that pain.

Actually Teresa does have shoulders like a football player and man hands to match, but the rest of your description is off. If you really believe what you wrote, you truly have no perception.

Ok seriously this comment is a little off. You seem to believe this made up scenario as fact, say it ain’t so! You honestly believe that Theresa has real trash on Melissa and doesn’t use it because of her family? Wow that’s scary delusional right there!

Seeing Teresa not able to live in reality was sad and pathetic. Between her reaction to Joe calling her a C on national TV and making excuses for it; not being able to say something nice about anyone else; constantly justifying and excusing her own stupidity and bad behavior and the fact that all she wanted to do was promote her book made me realize why I find her so vile.

I can’t wait to see how they portray Jacqueline this season, if they include info about their lawsuit for defrauding investors, and if she has the nerve to exploit her son. She seems to have the attitude that all drama is good drama.

What happened to cause Dena, Carolyne’s sister to leave the show and not speak to any of them. I missed that particular season or episode?

From what I’ve read smitsa, it was a few things. Dena, (Deena, Dina?), didn’t like Jaqueline much from the get-go, as Jaq met Chris at a trade show in Chicago and began hooking up with him at motels out of NJ while he was on “business” trips, while he was engaged to Dena’s bf. Then Dena was angry that she got booted off the show because she forged her hubby’s signature to the release form for her daughter, and although Caroline and Jaq said they’d tell Andy they’d walk with her, they backed down and stayed. There’s also stuff about Dena’s charity, Project Ladybug…I guess Caroline and another sis were originally in on it but later singed off… From what I’ve read and heard, Caroline does not get along with her other siblings, besides Chris, and Jaq is forced to follow suit in Caroline’s world.

Thank you Tango. I wasn’t aware of any of that. Why is Carolyne blaming it all on Teresa. I didn’t see her name anywhere in the mix. Is Teresa the generally the culprit by default?

Carolyne’s daughter has a horrible personality. When she was a little chubby, she was kinder and gentler. I’d hoped she had more of her father’s personality… but, no, she’s actually worse than her mom. Carolyne is slimy, slithering and underhanded with her meanness. Her daughter – is outright cruel. She should be careful, 12 midnight might strike and she’ll be a chubby again…. then what? If she and her mom are put in the forefront this season, I will not watch.

I am so excites about the new season, and now even more so because this is my first tims being on TT for Jersey, AND I am thrilled to read that if sounds like TT feels exactly the same as I do abouf each and every one which means that I can “throw shade” (God help me for using that term… just got finished watching fashion queens , which is still no excuse. The only thing that I was wondering is if maybe Melissa is pregnant. It’s just that she usually has the flattest small waist, and it is definitely bigger than I’ve ever seen it plus you can tell that she’s wearing some sort of spanx to boot. I also have mixed feeling about Caroline now saying ghat she can’t hate Tre, just because she swore up and down that she would never have anything to do with her again (besides being obsessed with everything that Tre does of course). I wonder if it’s partly becauae of the flack she got last season? Either way, I think she should be embarrassed bg her change of heart. I just think when you are as adament as she was about about it, that its like eating a big plate of crow to now be changing her tune, not that there’s anything wrong with crow. The one thing that I am really hopinv ia that the REAL truth about comes out about the fashion queens show set up, and not just more of Bravo productions fake story line version.

I sincerely apologize for all of the typos. This program is really user unfriendly for me when posting via my phone. Going back and editing is nearly impossible. Thank God I get my new phone tomorrow! Hopefully it will work better using that.
