Jodi Arias’s Letter From Jail To Ryan Burns

May 9, 2013 by tamaratattles 91 Comments

jodiarias2On March 20, 2009 Jodi Arias wrote a letter to Ryan Burns, the dude she hooked up with in Utah after murdering Travis Alexander. She begins the letter by pointing out to Ryan that she is way more spiritually advanced than he is, so she is not certain if he is enlightened enough to glean her message, but she is going to try. She then goes on to discuss other people’s lies. Because, she is an expert on lies.

He is what she wanted him to know:

1) She certainly was not giggling and smiling when taken into custody. She was somber, calm and resolute, dammit! And Detective Flores is  a lying liar who lies!

2) She never stopped at a place called Sinclairs  She has never even heard of Sinclairs.  It was Starbucks where those trouble making skateboarders messed with her license plate and gave all skateboarders a bad name. Kids like that are the reason why people hate skateboarders.

3) Jodi stresses that these three things are most important for Ryan to know. Three lies Flores told him… First, Flores did not save Ryan’s life by arresting Jodi, Flores will not turn up any other boyfriends who met a bad end, and she is not a serial killer. She is INDIGNANT at the suggestion!

4) The reason her attorneys called him whore for the state was because he gave testimony that made her look bad. Plus “she” has a strong personality and strong opinions. (Not sure if Willmott was her atty at this time or if she is referring to someone else.)

5) She is appreciative he did not use bad words when speaking of her and spoke only of the facts. She relates something that he told her once which essentially is the “God doesn’t give us more than we can handle” cliché.

6) Jodi doesn’t care anymore if Ryan believes her. She says Ryan is a wonderful guy and she is glad she met him.

To see the entire hand-written four page letter, you can view it here.

She has definitely proved that Casey Anthony is smarter than she is. The parallels in the cases are weird in places. They were committed practically within a month of each other… Caylee’s death was estimated to be on June 16 2008. Three years Anthony was FREE. big lesson here. Keep you huge ass mouth shut.

The more the Succubus talks the more shit it will rain down upon her.

She is so very unintelligent. It’s most apparent in the way she writes, you can tell it is someone trying hard to sound smarter than they are, and it comes off as awkward and stilted to the reader.

One thing she said on the stand was that she wanted to “edify” Travis. I looked up ‘edify’ in the dictionary and it means: “To instruct, especially so as to encourage intellectual, moral, or spiritual improvement.”

Is that really what she thought she was doing? Encouraging Travis towards spiritual improvement? She’s nuts!

Wow. Interesting to read this in context of last night’s interview & today’s antics. While ago, read rather persuasive article by psychologist, arguing that Arias fits not so much “borderline” as “anti-social personality disorder” criteria. Her deal was that Arias Lying outweighs Arias Manipulation, thus she is ASPD, in which lying is predominate. There’s more to her argument, but that seemed the crux, and I caught her drift. But in the shiny light of today, I revert to former position: this is Borderline to beat the band. Manipulation takes the day, and lying is but one of the ways she achieve it.

Wouldn’t be surprised to learn that the Arizona system isn’t drafting as we speak: The Borderline Protocol. Suicide Protocol is a laugh w/ this gal & will hardly suffice!

After she’s cleared by shrinks- GOD I pray that none of the people who testified are involved- and she’s clearly malingering. Then offer her (on the record) the option to waive the next two phases of sentencing and waive the right to appeal this case and be put down in the next 12 months. When she turns that down and they go to the mitigation and impact phases enter use this against her and then play the tape of her saying in interrogation “if I did it, I would want the DP” and then The blurb from last night. Call that bluff.

Right on! Call that bluff!! As in, “You were perfectly okay to don the makeup & do the interview, last night, my dear. So, step on in the courtroom & let’s get this party started!”

(Put her behind glass in some corner, naked, if need be, she likes that, and carry on, people. What, none of you ever danced w/ a 2-year-old before? On we go, on we go!)

JA is a full blown anti-social personality disorder entity- we all know that when her mouth is moving, lies are pouring out. She kills, has no remorse, blames everyone for her situation. Now she can’t stop the demons and fictions in her head on her next course of action, it will be interesting to see what she will do next, and to whom. She really thought she was going to walk away from the M1.

Disintegration is taking place – a miscalculation on yesterdays interview, landing her in the psych ward under suicide watch. Now she is really locked up. Maybe a lookahead of death row isolation of many years. Sounds as if she doesn’t know the reality of spending many years in deathrow. She is lying (again) about wanting the dp, she wants to stay on the fame train she is on now and enjoying the attention.

Isn’t JA one of the most strange people you have ever known? We all know her, even in the very personal sense, but she has topped herself with this letter to Ryan. In 2009 her biggest worry was what RB thought @ her??? Yesterday in her interview, she continued to accuse TA of being guilty of making her kill him and called JM a liar after a unamious jury had just found her guilty. She’s probably at some mental hospital conning more ALVs and Dr. Samuels tonight! That’s one strange girl.

I am in shock that Jodi has balls big enough to actually try to LIE to the jury and the public, saying that JUAN lied and was shady during the trial!! This b*tch knows that there is TONS of evidence that wasn’t allowed in because it was too prejudicial against her, yet she’s trying to LIE to the jury (thru this interview) with “inside info” about shady stuff JUAN did that no one knows about! In that interview, she refused to say she was sorry for killing Travis. She said she was sorry that his family had to find out all the shit she MADE UP about him! Now she doesn’t want the family impact statements to be done live…!! I can’t believe this chick! Wow

Haven’t followed this trial because the detailed irrelevant testimony totally made me ill. Good golly, when you practically have a video of the murder, etc. why in the world did it take so long for this trial. Detailed irrelevant information. Was this letter submitted as evidence? Was this hook up planned or a another example of spontaneous behavior? There will be dozens of books written about this chick; you could analyze her forever and never run out of things to say.

I must confess to a bit of a soft spot for Eileen. She truly suffered sub-human living conditions as a child such as living outdoors in Michigan or some very cold northern state. She lived in the woods behind her family and scrounged for her own food while her family lived feet away in a home. I can see that she grew into a predator b/c she had been the prey. I don’t see anything in JA’s life that would have turned her into the monster she has become.

I do agree with you peachteacher, about Eileen. She had a very bad childhood, whereas Jodi has much different issues. I think the wish to not be alive is similar.I have someone close to me diagnosed with Borderline, and I see a close resemblence in demeaner . It,s as if they are other worldly. You cannot get close to them. They are devoid of feelings and have a coldness and indifference about them. Saddly it is the people around them that have to suffer. Jodi is in a category all by herself. I think Jodi went to the dark side. Not just one bite of the apple, but the whole tree did she eat.

I think this will turn out to be a case of YOU CAN’T KILL ME YOU ASSHOLES, I WILL JUST KILL MYSELF. In her mind she does not want to give the jury the “pleasure” of killing her. So she will take it out of their hands so she is in charge. I’m for this because I fear some jurors may feel badly about it even knowing they did the right thing.

She patted Jodi and it looked like she said “it’s ok” or “it will be ok”? Maybe they set this up. A loud fight with her attorneys then an interview mentioning suicide, and the tweets before dropping the suicide reference….maybe this was planned to buy her a chance at getting a psych evaluation and getting declared unfit to be put to death.

I’m not convinced that incapacity is something JA would go for. I keep thinking it’s her need for control. Afterall, screw the jurors now. She doesn’t have to worry about what they think of her any longer. And, also the attention thing. Remember that Dr. D called her immature? After retiring from teaching kindergarten, I do know that some children want all of the attention. If they are not willing to follow the rules to get positive reinforcement, then they will cut the fool big time.

I think she’s just trying to heap as much dirt on JM and Travis as she can before she gets locked up. She wants to tell everyone how wrong we all are about her, and is trying to control her punishment. I think that’s why she’s insisting that the family impact statements be taped-she wasn’t to control what the jury finds out about her. There is plenty that she knows can come out in the penalty phase, so she wants to discredit JM before then so she won’t get death. She knows the jury believed Juan over her, so she’s making up lies to show them they’re wrong.

I agree she is immature and loves attention. But who decides on death, I thought it was the jurors? Or the judge? At any rate, I just do not trust anything she says or does, I do not think she wants death, I think she is gonna do her darndest to finangle and swing things her way. Hearing her very calm message to that journalist, and her insistence on still slamming Travis, shows that she is still trying to play victim and control everything.

What a fabulous, ingenious idea!!! Dr. Drew last nite said boarderlines when they reach the end of their rope do spaz out (not his exact words), but of course blame it on everyone else. She is such a piece of work and I do concur with sammiejane’s thoughts just up stream. She has had five years to read law books and come up with an evil backup plan if she should get M1. Death would be the best punishment as it will take years for the sentence to be carried out if at all, but she will be separated from the general population on death row. Should she get life she will be around others and have much more freedom and we all know by her own admission she is a celebrity in the general pop. She would not suffer enough in my opinion. That is the reason I am for the death penalty and not life in this case. I want her away from people that she can manipulate and use. Look how she got Donavan to do her bidding. This type of behavior will not stop it will go on and on and on. She will find ways to continue to hurt the Alexander family and that would be exceedingly cruel to them and Travis’s memory.

First, can they request to be removed due to her antics and refusal to follow their direction and if so, would that cause a mistrial? JA’s actions after the verdict are totally calculating & to be expected. She’s used to getting her way so she’s trying to manipulate the situation. She didn’t get what she wanted — a lesser charge so she’s throwing a temper tantrum & acting like a spoiled brat.

It seems only natural for Jodi to put Nurmi & Willmott in this awkward, embarrassing position (even after they spent years working on her defense). Everyone that’s sided with her throughout this trial has had their reputation tarnished in one way or another (some deservedly so).

Was it not the icing on the cake that Jodi threw the two whom have spent years defending her under the closest eighteen wheeler. Wonder how it feels not to have a soul?

Long delays seem to be a pattern in the Arias’ trial when [their] strategies change and I believe this whole dog & phony show includes her family. IMO – she’s been holding them hostage with her sickness all their lives. She’s the ring-master of this circus and we’re all being cued-up for the Grand Finale. You can almost decipher what acts are next just by listening to her interview after the verdict. Obviously, she was so giddy to decry it with her little pretend press release – She is feeding the media-beast with glee. She is a legend in her own mind – so folks, we’re all in for a very bumpy ride AND a colossal waste of our time. If these legal implementations are SO easy to manipulate than why doesn’t every criminal in the U.S. or (AZ) get to boss their attorneys around outright and utilize them AND why aren’t they in the headlines too ? Certainly there has to be case law & precedence before this court – that allows this Judge to impose a more astringent rule on these Arias’ proceedings which she is confident will NOT be overturned. Judges make those rulings everyday! The operative word here is PROCEED ! – They have, so far, a very patient jury seated. There has to be greater legal minds available that can out- strategize Arias. Where are the adults in the room? Where is the bench gavel ? Move along quickly now, least AZ, in their procedural attempts to telescope caution – end up with this circus in a mistrial. After all… isn’t that the next premeditated journey Arias is planning to take us on ? – She’s had nearly 5 yrs. to “pretend” she is a lawyer.

As I was listening to the clip of Troy Hayden the reporter who Jodi called to come do the interview with her right after the verdict, Troy says that he received a letter from the Estralia (sp?) jail saying something like: “Troy, she got your postcard. It talked about her still wanting to do the interview, then at the end of the letter, it said that all her incoming mail is read by the state and to keep everything confidential and not to contact her til after the verdict.

I wonder who at the jail sent that letter to him? Does she have a guard or an employee of the jail that sent that letter to Troy? It wasn’t Donovan, cause she was out of jail and contacted Troy on the street in person.

If the letter was addressed from the jail on Jodi’s behalf, wonder who that was?
If it would have been another inmate, wouldn’t it have been intercepted and read by the state?

Never have seen this clip of Hayden. Suppose he can’t be faulted for his journalistic stealth & zeal. My understanding is that Arias called him on the Sunday prior to verdict & put contingencies in place re: whichever verdict. So, would this note have been in addition? (Sounds like someone’s trying to get his/her piece of the action? Wonder who… )

Don’t get how a courthouse interview (that time & place) was even a possibility under any circumstances other than acquittal – &, even then, there would have been delay due to logistical issues, etc (never mind common decency?)

Realize this is old hat & all have moved past, but does anyone know: Are all convicted US defendants legally entitled to network affiliated sit-down courthouse interviews seconds after conviction proceedings? Or is this only a right, extended to convicted 1st degree, premeditated & felony killers? Maybe it works the other way: in the US, are network affiliated journalists legally entitled to request & conduct sit-down interviews right outside courtrooms with convicted 1st degree killers seconds after the verdicts come down? (Whatever happened to unceremoniously hauling the convict away?)

Because I still don’t get it. Who fielded whose request (whether the convict’s, her counsels’, or the interviewer’s?) Who opened the courthouse door as the light & sound equipment started arriving? Or was a press room readied in event of acquittal? When the guilty verdict came down, who exactly gave the go ahead? I care less about what she said than I do about the fact that this interview took place at all. Whole thing seems preposterous & suspect.

Good questions Jane. I don’t think there are any accidents with this “sudden” Arias ruse. Think about it… if you had nothing but time on your hands and you absolutely KNEW there were only 3 outcomes (verdicts) and possibly 1 bonus round (manslaugher) left to play out in your situation – Wouldn’t you think out what could be the best way possible to retaliate against that attack before the final rules & battle plays out ? ~ It’s almost like a war strategy. ~ Arias does not want to be left behind as average, nor will she tolerate a average and failed defense so she is one step ahead of everyone don’t you know ???? I think anyone may give interviews even if incarcerated – but I think the Miranda Law still applies at the prisoners own peril. Usually there OK’d under the advisement of their attorneys, and subject to objections from the DA or the courts. Maybe it varies under each states jurisdiction but I think under 1st amendment rights they can be allowed – but NOT usually done till the process is over or in appeal. Take note how C.Anthony’s attorneys handled her post-conviction PR. Nada ! I would guess this debacle now lies under the seal of the courts (no pun intended) for the truth. For Arias, it is the perfect PR and BPD response to this conviction (outcome) so she really GUMS up the process – AGAIN. IMO either way – the defense gets to change horses, using her so-called mental state they fought against – to her advantage. I’m not sure I even want to give her credit for all of this – This little “stunt” HAD to have “inside” muscle to help her into it. Remember first words of testimony – “No jury is going to… because I planned to be dead.” I heard some BPD behaviors have to have irony: cryptic and full circle. We all just have to be more clever than Arias to figure out… after all – she already told you ! She can’t help if we’re just dumber than her ! It’s just the price of her martrydom. (sorry if comments are too long) I think it’s part of a plan.

This is how I think it went down, Jane. The reporter was doing another story at the jail in Jan. at the beginning of the trial. While @ the jail he saw JA in a high security pod activity room, he asked to speak with her, and she agreed. At the end of that conversation, she asked him not to print some details and she would give him the 1st interview. During the trial, Donovan told Troy that JA was going to keep their deal. He sent her a postcard as the trial neared an end. She called him on May 5th and that is the message you have probably heard. So, here we are. I do not know if the lawyers knew or not and I don’t care. She slaughtered him. I still believe she is going to get death.

HI Jane: I saw Sheriff Joe Arpaio on TV and he said that his jail has an open door policy when it comes to the media. He stated that every day there are media people in the jail interviewing someone, so if Troy Hayden wanted to interview JA, and she agreed to it, and it wouldn’t interfere with the scheduling of the jail/court (she would have had to wait around for hours before being taken back on the prisoner transport), then the sheriff will allow it. What else could he do? That’s always been his policy, and just because it’s JA, she has the same rights as any other prisoner.

I personally think that Sheriff Joe was just hoping JA would screw up and say something stupid in her interview. He was right. By stating that “death is the ultimate freedom”, and that she’d “rather have it sooner than later”, Sheriff Joe could determine that she was a danger to herself or to others, and send her to the psych ward.

Despite what Nancy Grace is claiming to be a “cushy room” at the Lower Buckeye Jail, JA is probably in a single cell, in her paper gown, with no pencils or pens to write with, surrounded by noisy, REALLY psychotic inmates; screaming, crying, and pounding on the doors.

It will be interesting to see if she carries on with her “death is the ultimate freedom” stance or if she’ll want to get back to general population ASAP. My bet is she’ll want to get back to the gen pop, where she has her little fan club of inmates who think she’s awesome because she killed her “abuser”. In the psych ward, no one will even know who she is, and they wouldn’t give a crap anyway, because they’re CRAZY!

Good call Nancy. Jodi thrives on attention and creating chaos to get that attention. I am so pro her getting the death penalty, but in some ways I almost hate to think about her sitting in the court of Satan, possibly by his right side. Thoughts of finding a vodoo priestess, wiccan who practices the dark arts, a native american shaman or any of the religions that can contain her soul and not let her reach “freedom” upon her death come to mind. Or could we just shut this spawn down in a closed facility, shut off from the world, living out her live with no freedom, sunshine, gifts, twitter, guests, etc.?

I just listened to a report on Ariz.com from the juror who was dismissed b/c of the DUI. He was also in the courtroom for the verdict. He said he would have voted the same and felt invested in the trial. I felt badly for him. If anybody deserves a drink a the end of the day it’s those guys. I never felt that he made the statement @ being a juror to get special treatment. What else could he do? Just the way I think.

I feel for this guy, too, Peach. (Not for nothin’ even judges have whisky stashed in the desk drawer?) Let’s say a juror was AA – a trial like this could sure knock a guy off the wagon. So, thanks, again, Ariass, for all the collateral damage.

Croaker Queen has a youtube video posted and titled Jodi Arias – The Verdict. It’s 4:48 minutes, at 3:35 Jodi says to Willmott, after the jury leaves, “I have that interview”. Willmot’s back is to the camera, can’t see what she says.

What would the Judge do with that information? What if the lawyers were in on this interview and they use this to prove insanity so that she can’t get the death penalty? Is this type of legal maneuvering legal? Does anyone know? Now they are wondering what her “state of mind is”. This information is so crazy!!

There aren’t many criminals who can get a reporter to come to jail to see them. I read @ people calling the station where Troy Hayden works questioning why he helped her. I’m like, helped her??? And, birds gotta sing, bunnies gotta hop, and reporters have to report. Come on, this is Jodi Ann Arias. When I was growing up, my mama said there were lies and damn lies. Every word out of her mouth is a damn lie and TWISTED!

I think the letter is an attempt to manipulate Ryan Burns, just another man she hoped to suck into her web of lies. I hope the judge allows Travis’ family to speak live with their impact statements, it is only fair that Jodi has to sit and listen to every word. After all Travis’ family sat their with dignity and had to hear all the lies Jodi could think of. My heart breaks for this family. I think the judge will make the right ruling, if she doesn’t, she will be the most hated judge, ever. @JustForAll, I agree with everything you said. And, thank you for the heads-up about Dateline, I see 20/20 has a segment too, at 10:00PM

The Defense probably knew she had the interview. How could they not? It was scheduled way ahead of time.

Heck, Jodi probably thought she’d be giving a ‘victory speech’ and clinking glasses of champagne with her lawyers instead of going back into the clink! . . . This was so not Casey Anthony the way she thought it would be.
