Statement from Jodi Arias Trial Juror Number Five

EDITED TO ADD LINK TO BRIEF INTERVIEW WITH JUROR # 5

Juror #5 has made an official statement to the press. She’s a smart lady. I am in the camp that feels sorry for her. We don’t know what she is accused of saying or doing. Let alone what really happened. That said, I think sitting outside in the front of the courthouse where all the media is probably violates that whole avoiding the media thing. So there is that…He is what she said…

In the past few days I have been a part of discussion and interest in the murder trial case of Jodi Arias. For the past three months I have been fulfilling my duty as one of the jurors in the case of Jodi Arias.  Jodi Arias’ attorneys have filed a motion asking for a mistrial or that Juror 5 is removed from the jury, which led to my removal.

UPDATED WITH PICTURE OF JUROR 5 AFTER THE BREAK

jodijuror5
BTW the hair is supposedly PINK not reddish at it looks here. Not what I pictured at all….

Until the verdict in murder trial case of Jodi Arias is reached I will not make any statements or give any interviews regarding my removal from the jury.  I believe that the attention should be focused on the actual trial. I would ask from everyone to please respect my privacy and the privacy of my family.

Well that’s good. I too feel badly for her. I think perhaps her dismissal was more to do with a shake of the head or harsh look at Jodi than her seeing Juan get praise. I bet Jodi could tell she wasn’t feelin her and they just used this whole front door thing to get her out.

The removal of a juror is serious and the judge likely had evidence of this juror breaking the admonition. Either way, she was not removed on a whim! I don’t feel sorry for her at all. After the verdict I’m sure the media will find out the exact reason, that is, if anyone gives a crap about her and her removal at that point.

I don’t understand why many folks are feeling empathy for Juror #5! The Arizona taxpayers are on the hook for nearly $1MM for this trial thus far, and Juror #5’s actions (whatever they are) were significant enough to have her removed from the jury, thus, risking mistrial and now, potential appeal fodder should Jodi Arias be convicted. A mistrial would mean that they start all over again – and starting the taxpayer bank “clock” at $0 — all over again. There are very few “things” that I believe the government should force you to do — being on a jury and being honest it one of them. Breaking the rules as a juror is repugnant, as the rules are fairly simple.

Her interview asking price is not going to go up with time. If she waits til after the verdict, noone will care what her opinion of the case is because the jury will have already spoken. I think she will not get paid for her interview at all.

I’m done with this damn trial until next week. Whenever the state is up is when I return. I’m not listening to her regurgitate shit she heard from Jodi — as if it’s the gospel or legitimate evidence of Jodi’s claim of abuse. I wish a few jurors would stand up and asked to be released. I bet this lame-o judge would crack down on the bullshit then.

the witness was sick, even the haters at HLN said she was sick, This witness is very good and knows her stuff. If there is one woman on that jury that has been abused by a man, she will totally understand what is being said. Jodi was abused and Travis was not a very nice person. So sorry that he is dead but he was not the angelic man that most of you are trying to say he is.

      April 4, 2013 at 11:50 am

Louise, I am not one who ever said that TA was angelic. But I do not believe he was a monster or an abuser. He was in the throes of intense sexual attraction, a type of relationship which most young men and women encounter in their lives at least once. Apparently, to Travis, JA was good enough to “plug” but not wifey material, and many men in these types of relationships view the women in the same way — not the kind of girl I’d bring home to mother. There’s nothing wrong with it as it is very common behavior.

Getting testy with her, calling her a skank or a whore, or a porn star is NOT abuse. She could have moved on at any time she wanted to. She was NOT captive. So, where is the “abuse?”

Right on point Dlister. It is not abuse when you ask for it. Jodi told Travis it was ok to debase her and treat her like she was just a hole. Jodi’s version of abuse is like asking to get choked and then complaining you couldn’t get enough air.
No, Travis was not a saint or a perfect mormon. However, his biggest crime was being an idiot and continuing to mess around with a psycho ex-girlfriend. He didn’t know hoes don’t turn into housewives and you don’t mess with crazy.
Or maybe he did but all that sex gave him that transient global amnesia too. Either way, that is no justification for killing him. If any woman on that jury has been abused, she will understand what is being said and realize Jodi was not a victim.

there’s verbal abuse, there’s a “cad” sorta abuse, then there is BRUTAL MURDER – stabbing 29 TIMES/SLASHING HIS THROAT/SHOOTING HIM IN FACE – in self defense…of course….Jodi is a very unstable woman with many issues that began long before she met Travis – she moved to Mesa AZ AFTER they had broken-up for God’s sake! All of those months she was in CA and he was in AZ – why not cut off communication with a guy who’s mean, abusive, etc? AND MOVE ON?? hope any juror will see difference between Jodi’s claimed abuse and victims of real abuse who end up in women’s shelters with their kids cause they have no where else to go and no one to help them

Louise Davis, you may be right that Dr.Lavalamp knows her stuff,(although, me thinks she’s gonna have big probs on the ‘Jodi not jelly’ from Juan, though, can’t wait for that) and any one who was abused will understand what she’s saying, THEREFORE they will also understand that it DOES NOT apply to Jodi. She was not abused! Maybe mistreated, a few times, but not abused! This is not Burning Bed this is Fatal Attraction, it’s as obvious as the nose on your face! She converted her religion for him, played the tempress card to the skank degree, then when Travis, understandably, becomes ‘just not that into her’, the sneaking into his house begins, tire slashings and the obsessive psychopath can no longer contain herself. This was a well thought out, pre-meditated rage-revenge killing, plain & simple. Louise you should read a comment from yesterday by someone who, brilliantly, said something like… What abused person drives 1400 miles with a trunkful of gas, has kinky sex, then over kills him with 2 weapons?

Bottom line no matter how “mean” you think Travis may have been to Jodi, no thinking person can possibly believe her that she had any reasonable belief that her life was in danger (from dropping a camera) and that she is justified to butcher and shoot him in the face. Please.

Any woman who has had a man ‘toy with her’, use her sexually over and over, make her think he loved her, then been dumped – well… not ‘any woman’ but one on the jury is all it will take – just one to think he got what he deserved.

I am NOT saying I think he got what he deserved but I have heard plenty of women say that they did! And strangely enough, I have heard even more men say that he got what he deserved – most of them dads of girls in their early 20’s.

I’ve had it happen more than once. I often hear of assholes who get what’s coming to them and have very little compassion.

That said, I have not heard a single thing about Travis that would evoke that response. Seemed like typical young dating behavior to me. They were all 20 somethings when this happened.

Ya, I do not understand this idea at all. “What’s comin to him” would be to fall in love then get dumped, not to be executed in cold blood. Men and women get dumped every day all day. It is not a good defense. I think Jodi’s lawyers shoulda focused more on trying to create believable self defense. Although I guess they couldn’t, given the brutality of the murder.

If it were not them, there would have been others in their place, guaranteed. But the prosecutor needs to do his job to make his case and to specifically destroy any “reasonable doubt.” JM is known to be masterful at this, and now, due to this particular case, he is showing his God-given talents.

The risk of mistrial here is ridiculous. I really dont get this judge. Now if the jury saw her smiling when Juan finally got up there??? You know one of the first things the defense is going to do tonight is dig deep into juror 5’s behavior and the jury and ask for another mistrial. SMH

Because I don’t really think that she IS for the defense, and the defense knew that she wasn’t for them. So they made up a lie saying that she was coaching Jodi so 1) at worst they could have her removed, and 2) at best it would be an excuse for a mistrial. IDK. I’m just taking some shots in the dark here I guess. I just cannot imagine that this juror was coaching Jodi Arias though. That’s too crazy for me to believe.

Well, even if someone did mention her hair color, I know damn well that no one on HLN said that the juror was coaching Jodi Arias. Otherwise those HLNers would have been ALL OVER that, especially Nancy. Nope… not on Nancy’s watch!!! Something very fishy here. If anyone, I could see that Dr. Drew juror giving a description of the hair though. I don’t know why, but I could see her describing something like that. – Of course that means nothing, just my opinion of her I guess. I don’t know if people in the court room are told that they can’t mention anything about the appearance of the jurors or not. Another thing though, if HLN was being blamed for this, don’t you think that they would be talking about it, or it would be confirmed by a reputable news source other than HLN that this is what happened (in the case that HLN is in the dog house for doing so)? Hey wait a minute…. why is Dr. Drew out this week??? Just kidding (I think). Things that make ya go hmmmmm….

The whole domestic violence thing really makes me angry. I lived with a battered woman for 11 years of my life, my mother. After those 11 years she was taken from me when she was murdered by my stepdad. None of her actions on the stand during her 18 days of testimony say “battered woman to me.” Then add to that a few other things. (1) She seemed to be a willing participant in sex with Mr. Alexander as per the tape that was recorded. (2) They did not live together. Therefore, it seems highly unlikely to me that she would CHOOSE to drive 1400 miles to see someone that she “claims” was so abusive. (3) Given that they did not live together, she was not forcibly trapped by him against her will. (4) I seriously doubt any woman who is repeatedly abused would have a willing desire to continually make love with an abuser. (5) Stabbing a man 29 times, cutting his throat and then shooting him strikes me as a rage killing, not self defense.

If you notice, I did not stick to Jodi’s testimony that she “shot him first.” That’s crap. I’ve listened to testimony and read the ME’s autopsy report. I’m a medical professional myself, so the autopsy report was not difficult to understand. The gunshot wound produced no hemorrhaging (bleeding). This would suggest that at the time of the GSW, Mr. A was already dead. Is it just me, or do others wonder why, first of all, if I were in defense of my life and I had a gun, would I take the time to stab someone instead of merely shooting them to eliminate the threat and then get myself to safety? Also, another question I have is this: Let’s assume, simply for the sake of argument, whether you believe so or not, that Jodi is telling the truth, that she did shoot first. The law is clear regarding self defense, that you can use deadly force only until such time as the imminent danger is over. I also brief Supreme Court cases for fun. The ME testified that the GSW to the face would be incapacitating, that Travis would not have been able to be a threat to her. Therefore, according to her own testimony, the threat would have been passed. By her own account that she shot him first, the following stab wounds and throat slashing would definitely not fall under the auspice or protection of legal self defense. Add to that the 9 or so stab wounds to the back (which would mean that Travis was turned AWAY from her), and I don’t see how her lawyers were even allowed to present self defense as a claim. Wouldn’t it have been more effective to claim temp insanity? Instead of the woman who did not live with him and was, therefore, not trapped by him, the woman who could have just refused to make the drive to see him, the woman who could have simply changed her number, email address and cut off contact, refused to have sex with him, etc. saying that she was “abused,” why not just say, “I just snapped. He treated me like a whore, a dog, like someone beneath him for so long that when he humiliated me this last time by having sex with me and then telling me he was taking some other woman to Mexico, relegating me back to my sex object whore status, I just snapped.” I might have even been able to swallow that…at least much better than I could ever swallow self defense. I’m not saying that if she had claimed temp insanity I would have necessarily believed her or even given her a pass, but at least that wouldn’t be such a ludicrous claim as is what she says now. It also bothers me that her claims of abuse are just the type to make it more difficult for the women who really are faced with life-and-death abuse. Those women really do have a legitimate case, and Jodi is making a mockery of a tragic, pathetic and dangerous situation for her own gain. That’s ridiculous and should definitely NOT be rewarded.

Was the Medical Examiner able to conclude what actually killed Travis Alexander? If I remember correctly, he was not able to make that determination – so we can’t be certain whether the gunshot or the stabbing was the precise manner/focus.

I am of the belief – just my humble thought – that she is 100% LYING especially about “the fog”, so I am trying to construct the events using logic in her decision-making.

      Here goes, somewhat scattered:
I think she knows that the gun could somewhat logically be traced back to her (inference can certainly be reasonably presumed since the grandparent’s stolen gun was the same kind as the one used to shoot him), but that the knives used are long gone, and more importantly, ubiquitous. I also believe she knows that the slashing killed Travis, so she will admit to the shooting (as it wasn’t the direct murder weapon). I also believe that she used two weapons because she was already planning her alibi if the police figured out she was actually there — so this could fit logically into the story (#2 I think), that “the female ninja had the gun” and the “mail ninja had the knife”.

I don’t understand the “I accidentally shot him” / “but I did it in self-defense” / “since I was battered I am justified” defense. The only logical reason is that a) her defense counsel is using the kitchen sink method in hopes of resonating with just 1 juror, or b) to persuade the jury and judge to spare her life bc they feel a little sorry for her.

Oh, yeah, and has anyone else other than me had a thought that everything LaViolette has said could be applied to Jodi instead of Travis? In other words, who is to say that females can’t be the aggressor, the perpetrator in a domestically violent relationship? It happens…women do abuse men. I’ve seen it…lived it. So isn’t it funny how we always assume the man is the guilty one? What if it was Travis who was being abused routinely? Again, just as I stated on the flip side, if that is the case, he did not live with her. He could have easily simply refused further contact. My point is simply that things shouldn’t always be stereotyped.

I was pissed when LaViolette used the term “victim” for Jodi and “perpetrator” for Travis. This biz is gonna bite Snow White’s azz.

That was a great moment, and I think the look on her face when juan pointed the fact that she just called jodi the victim and travis perp said it all. And then she opened her mouth and more bullshit fell out. If she’s not ashamed of herself she should be, and I would have to conclude that similar to jodi, her conscience is not working correctly. I wonder if she regrets having taken this job. She really pissed me off when she pulled that “Mr. Martinez, are you angry at me?” crap. Another difficult witness who wants to play games and play dumb. Ay carumba!

A newsman in AZ got her to admit that it was something she said as a joke. Then he reported this lined up with what sources told him. Apparently the jury had a LOL moment after some Dr. Samuels testimony about his pay rate. Juror 5 supposedly said to her fellow jurors “For $300 bucks and hour they should be able to afford some more comfortable seats for us.” everyone laughed. Someone told the defense…

I would think it would have been Laviolette on the stand based on timing. Still that seems trivial. I would have imagined many jokes about the expert witnesses.
