Did anyone else watch Leann Rimes on the X Factor last night? She was on there to sing a duet with teen prodigy Carly Rose. Let’s just say it wasn’t pretty. First of all Carly Rose totally out sang her. Leann seemed to realize this during the song and began upping her dramatics. She also seemed sort of out of it and wobbled around at times grabbing on to Carly to steady herself. Today several celebrity blogs are alleging she was drunk.
Today she is oddly quiet on twitter. After I wrote that sentence I went to double check to see if she was tweeting and noticed that TMZ has a new story up about the incident. Leann gave TMZ this explanation:
LeAnn says she was in no way impaired, and any awkwardness was because “I was trying to help this 13-year-old girl who was having some trouble with the song.”
LeAnn believes Carly Rose Sonenclar was very nervous and had difficulty with some of the notes and she was doing her best to help her get through it.
LeAnn’s lawyer, Larry Stein, who spoke with LeAnn a few minutes ago, tells TMZ “LeAnn was not performing the way she would normally perform, because she was on stage with a young girl.” LeAnn says she does not understand why people believe she was drunk. Stein has a theory: “There have been a lot of untrue things said by others and it feeds into this sort of thing.”
One mystery remains — we found out LeAnn made a plate of food backstage and spilled it everywhere. Stein told us he didn’t know anything about that, but LeAnn insists she was stone cold sober.
Wow, everyone with ears heard Carly Rose out sing Leann on live TV. Today she wants to blame her impairment on a 13-year-old girl by saying Carly was having problems with the song? Really? And her PR person went along with this excuse? WOW.
Who do y’all think will win X Factor tonight?
UPDATE: Leann denies giving a statement to TMZ. She tweeted the following today. “”In my 18 years of performing, I have never been anything but professional onstage. It is a shame that gossip and lies are overshadowing the performance of Carly, a very talented young girl. And while I have not given any media outlet a quote, if you want one, here it is “It was an amazing opportunity to share this experience with Carly and I know I’ll be watching for her to win tonight.”
