Nene Leakes on Fashion Police

May 30, 2012 by tamaratattles 49 Comments

Interesting and conflicting Atlanta fashion news today. Atlanta has been named in a Huffington Post survey as number 7 in a list of worst dressed cities, and they specifically mention the RHOA as an example of the problem.

If the flashy reality-TV stars of The Real Housewives of Atlanta are at all indicative of how the rest of Atlanta dresses, it’s no wonder our readers ranked it as America’s No. 7 least-stylish city. Hotlanta has one of the highest per capita incomes of any southern city, but as the TV show illustrates and the saying goes: money can’t buy taste.See More of America’s Worst-Dressed People

Meanwhile out in La-La Land, Nene Leakes just finished filming her appearance on this week’s episode of Fashion Police. The show will air on E! Friday at 10 pm. Let’s hope she didn’t do the tacky one shoulder housewife top. Joan will rip her to shreds. Could be a fun show to watch. Also Nene is doing her “looking at houses” routine on twitter. Girl, please. Nobody is going to give you a mortgage. We all know that.

NeNe was tweeting the other day that she was thinking about moving to Los Angeles, and was looking at houses in Beverly Hills. I was like girl sit. Don't let your panties get too big for your britches. Oh…and that pic above is hilarious.

I actually love Nene style. I think, for her size she dresses very nice. Also no one knows, for sure what Nene can afford. Stop hating, it's beginning to sound ridiculous. Team Nene.

There are public records that show that Nene has a really messed up credit history. While she and Gregg "divorced" to give his all the debt so he can file bankruptcy, and she may or may not get away with that, her credit history belongs to her. This has nothing to do with "hating". A term which as come to mean saying anything negative about someone. It's a fact. Mortgages are not just given out like candy anymore. You have to qualify. She would not qualify. This is the same reason that Sheree's house is in her mother's name. Even if you "can afford" a house, it doesn't mean a bank is going to give you a loan for it. It's simple economics. Not "hating."

As for Phaedra and Apollo, there have ALWAYS been rumors that those two are not what they appear. The current rumor is no different from has always been speculated. I don't see him leaving her, for financial reasons.

Wow, someone must be pulling up, NeNe financial records, divorce decree, to know her credit rating status. How do you know what this woman can and can't afford. Whether she can qualify, for a loan or not. It's up to the bank to make that decision, not some blog gossip. My dad alway said,"Don't talk about how dirty someone elses house is before you clean-up your own. I goggled, Phadera and their is an article about her and Apollo separation. Hope this is not true.

Why are the Nene fans the crazy ones? I never get anyone screaming about hating on people when I post on Phaedra or Kandi. I ALWAYS get them if I say anything positive about Kim (the same Nene fans). I get nothing about Cynthia posts. I did get some people screaming HATER about posting about Sheree's financial troubles. But ANY post about Nene brings the ghetto to the blog. EVERY. TIME.

Tamara preach. These folks don't have a clue about credit scores or financing. Neenee doesn't even know what the word wealthy means. She's screaming rich and spending every dime that touches her pockets. In the finance world, we call her a pass through entity.

Yes, it is tough if you have bad credit, Tamara you or correct. However, there are ways around it one way is putting the house in someone else name with good credit or piggy back off of someone else credit. You can piggy back by getting someone with good credit to add you to their credit cards to up your credit score. People do that for children that have no credit score but not many people will be willing to do this… Hell I'll do if she paid me LOL

You'd be a fool, cause like a previous commenter said, Nene's money don't hit her pocket before she spends it.There are poor credit risks like Nene who owe everyone and spend money on purses and shoes, and there are good credit risks, like me who paid cash for this house and my car. Yes I am in the ghetto but I actually BOUGHT everything I have and never FINANCED a damn thing.I get my sense of self worth from that. Not shoes. Plus, like Nene I am a size ten, and really don't want people noticing that by drawing attn to my feet. For me it is travel and gold. I don't get the whole shoes and handbags nonsense. The resale value of gold bangles is way better than old shoes. I just don't get why even new money would not see that.

Hi Tamara,Welcome back. Hope your poochie is better.I am not a NeNe fan nor do I think your assessment can be considered hating but don't you think that unless the stories about her many ventures are grossly exaggerated she could possibly purchase out there?I've read about the new sitcom she's involved with & of course there's RHOA; her stint on Glee; her much bragged-about (by her) time on CA; whatever she receives for appearances & who knows (I don't) what kind of revenue her book generated?Unless she has a bankruptcy and/or foreclosure in her credit history couldn't she perhaps go the high risk loan route? I've always found that banks are more likely to loan you money if you can show you don't need it.All that said, I do believe Ms. Leakes could benefit from some humble pie.

MaggieG, thanks for asking about Banjo he is improving. As for Nene, she has no bankruptcy or foreclosure in her past. But she has a history, a credit history of spending way more than she can cover. It was all prior to RHOA. A long history of financial mismanagement is a problem. A history of evictions for non payment of rent, is a problem. Also, I keep trying to tell you guys she doesn't make as much as you think she does. She does Very well. By normal folk standards. Not by LA standards. Nene is NOT trying to buy a house in LA. the Tweet was to make it look like she could. She knows. It will be a filmed storyline just like her looking at 9 million dollar houses in Miami.Dont forget she is out there with cameras.:)

It surprises me how little most people understand about finances. You have a greater chance of catching HIV than getting approved for a subprime mortgage by a bank today. Some borrowers can qualify for a government mortgage guaranteed by FHA, but lenders typically have a minimum credit score of 580. And for FHA loans, you are limited on the type of the house you can buy. Loans in most markets are not over 200k. So as Tamara said if you have jacked credit, you will not be getting a mortgage in this environment in all likelihood. This situation has happened to many people so it's not something to be ashamed of at all. Most people should learn to stop spending.

If she put down more then half then some lenders tend to look the other way, things are different with celebrities the guild lines do change.

Many folks are enamored with the symbols of wealth rather than building wealth. So that's why you have dummies like neenee running around talking about she's rich. It sounds so silly. I just laugh at how simple these folks are. So empty inside but praying someone will be envious

Kory is not the highest paid nfl player, not even close. Kory will not have one dime when he finish in the NFL. Hi, Tamara.I have a question. You mentioned in your comments above that NeNe spends all her money on designer handbags. Is it possible that she is not spending her money on those bags? You mentioed that she is looking for homes to make it appear she can afford one in Beverly Hills, so maybe she isn't buying those handbags. Do celebrities receive gifted items or some kind of deal is worked out? Thanks in advance for taking the time to answer my question. Also, I truly appreciate your blog. Great job.Regards,Tracey

I am so happy for NeNe with her success but all this chatter about shoes & bags disturbs me… If this is true she is doing her son & self a great disservice… How could anyone blow this chance in life… She should be banking every cent – how many bags does one person need? Having a house for you son to lay his head at night should come first… the thought makes me sick…

A few thoughts.I do believe Nene spends significant amounts of her own money on shoes and bags, which is her right. While some of the items may be gifts from designers, the vast majority are probably not. Louboutin does not need her to advertise for him, neither does LV. Keep in mind, she is a true to form 'kuntry', 'new money', 'money can't buy class' type of person so she will only wear well-established, heavy-hitting labels. It's not like she is wearing small, up and coming and/or independent labels that might want to give away product for advertisement. So much of what she has is probably coming to her at full retail price from the likes of personal shoppers at Neimans and Barneys. Some of us need a reality check with regard to mortgages and credit in this environment. It is indeed very difficult to obtain a home loan even if you have decent or good credit. Thus poor and fair credit is a long shot as the banks are not budging. This is not hate. This is simply fact – economic reality and fact. Nene's past credit issues would prevent her from getting a decent loan and probably even a sub-prime loan. I venture she would need to pay cash or have a strong co-signer.The only thing that improves credit is time and money: time value (as the negative history ages) and cash to pay off most, if not all, debt. That's just the way it is.

Nene, it doesnt make common sense that you could be making all the smartest moves career wise, to have grown in front of our eyes without some of this common sense and growth affecting your understanding of money. I know you love fashion but you have proven yourself to be a very wise sister who grows from mistakes so for this reason alone, I am gonna give you the benefit of the doubt, and assume you are saving just as much as you are spending. Do you really think they all have great credit, or are putting homes in others names? Y'all really think that when these celebrities were waiters and waitresses that they managed to keep grade A credit, and that's the only way they were able to buy these multi million dollar homes? Do y'all not read about celebs having their houses foreclosed on just like everyone in the news? Y'all really think celebrities are immune from having to qualify for a loan and just give them the money? Really? Why would they do that? I'm so curious to hear y'all explain this to me.

Real celebrities do get extra points because of their name. Case in point. My cousin works at a bank that many celebrities have acccounts in. She told me that David Hasselholf ex (pam) was thousands negative in her bank account and the bank still kept it open. My bank would close mine if i was $20 overdrawn for too long. So yes depending on who you are on the list or who you are married to or were married to, your word or your name is your credit.

Well ladies and gentleman, we have a financial expert among us! Anon has a play cousin who works at a bank for celebrities! And at that bank, they have employees who have access to the account information of these major celebrities like, David Hasselhoff's ex wife. And those people talk about the bank balances of huge celebritites. This totally proves that celebrities have secret banks with special priveledges that give them money to buy houses with despite their crappy credit ratings! That means that A-List Hollywood celeb Nene Leakes can get a house in LA after all! I have no idea why she has been renting her whole life. Someone please tweet her this lifechanging piece of information!

First of all Tamara if anybody considers the housewives celebrities it would def be you as much as you talk about them. Also most of these comments refer to celebrities in general. You're a fool if you think all of these rappers, singers, actors, etc are only able to get into these homes if their credit rating is up to par. Of course celebrities get their homes foreclosed if they don't pay. Don't you have anything better to do than to go back and forth with readers that leave comments you don't like? I bet you aren't like this in person, you prob save what you wish you could say to someone's face for your comments section. SMH

I agreed with you! I realized my mistake as soon as you posted about your cousin who works at a bank! "Rappers, singers, actors and especially etc." get a free pass on home loans! All my life I thought banks were a business with criteria for making loans. It wasn't until you came along that I realized, that a gig on cable and an appearance on Glee just makes all the rules of business fall away even if you come with a history of failure to pay rent. I'm totally seeing your point! Why would a bank care about something like credit history when they could just give a loan to someone like Nene Leakes! Nene LEAKES! Banks must be beating down her door to loan her money right now while the economy is so good and then everyone will want to have their mortgage with that celebrity bank she deals with! She has such pretty shoes! Who would not want to move their mortgage to Celebrity Bank of America! I get it. totally.
