So far in my very scientific assessment of who is leaving Real Housewives of Atlanta, I determined that Kim, Kandi and Phaedra are likely staying. From here on out, things get a bit more interesting. Cynthia is one of the housewives whose return could be up in the air. Her storyline in season four focused on her shaky marriage and the ripples of uncomfortable interactions that radiate from that marriage outward to her family. Both she and Peter have opened businesses at the same time despite having serious financial difficulty after Peter’s last business failed and incurring wedding related expenses. Despite all the marital drama, I have few recollections of scenes this season that were just about Cynthia. With the exception of the extremely staged scenes with Miss J of Project runway, where Bravo brought in Miss J as well as the young lady in the booty shorts (a previous America’s Next Top Model hopeful) most every scene had Cynthia in often unpleasant interactions with either Peter or Nene. So will Cynthia stay?
If Nene leaves, does Cynthia have what it takes to work her own storyline and move forward without her? Would the smalls welcome her into the fold if Nene was not around? I tend to think so. But do we really need her? Well again that depends. Cynthia’s “School of Fashion” could be an interesting storyline if it focused on the trials and tribulations of opening a new business and we got to know a few of the girls from the school. The problem with that is, there still is not much of a “school” happening. Cynthia seems to have changed direction with that whole situation and seems to be trying to have her own little Cynthia Bailey’s Next Top Model show. She is often on the road either running these questionable “modeling contests” which Peter seems to have a hand in or hanging out at fashion week.
Tomorrow she will be at Black Expo in Charleston, SC. Her model search website had a listing for a model search in Nashville in February but that never happened. Now she is scheduled to have one in Charlotte at the end of the month but there is no way to sign up for it nor any mention of how much it costs to attend the workshops that include things like talking about hair with Derek J. She’s all over the place, and there may not even be a Bailey School of Fashion by season five.
So will she stay? It’s really too close to call. If Nene stays, she will likely stay as well. Speaking of Nene, she’s up next. Do you guys want Cynthia to stay for season five?
