The Real Housewives of Atlanta On Safari at Shamwari

February 13, 2012 by tamaratattles 12 Comments

We begin in the place we left off with the Sheree and Marlo catfight. You have to hand it to Sheree, she managed to be a central character in not one but two major fights this season! Way to make yourself a storyline there Sheree. I never like it when I watch the sneak peeks  because the whole rest of the Cape Town scenes seemed like a rerun to me.  So off we go to Shamwari!
Why are they trying to act like they drove from Capetown to Shamwari? That’s over five hundred miles.  They flew from Capetown to Port Elizabeth where the spent a day or two before driving to Shamwari. Why didn’t they at least acknowledge that? They will fly out of Port Elizabeth as well so perhaps we will see some of that before they head back to The States.

I am shocked that they stayed at the lodges they did. I suppose they knew better than to put the girls in the tents, but still it would have made for good TV.  The “tents” are five star accommodations with indoor plumbing (and outdoor showers) but the outer “walls” are canvas and critters can and do get in!  That would have been fun! Nene and Marlo were in Long Lee Manor Lodge. I did not see enough of the smalls rooms to see where they were staying.

Cynthia at least had the sense to wear costume jewelry. Also, once again I love the braided wig she brought. This trip was Cynthia’s shining moment to be the most sophisticated, sensible person in the group. Bless her heart, she really should have rolled with the smalls. She didn’t deserve to have her trip disrupted the way that she did. In next week’s, episode you will see Cynthia sitting as far away from Marlo as possible. She’s so much smarter and more likable away from Peter.

I don’t believe Marlo’s behavior. No, I mean, I seriously do not believe it. They MUST have paid her for each obnoxious act. I honestly do not believe anyone is that obnoxious. It’s a good thing they had a crew with them because she would have been jumped on the way out of club Jade.  You don’t go out in a foreign country (or anywhere for that matter) and get wasted and then pull out wads of cash and toss it into the air unless you are at the Pink Pony. Especially as a female. All of that designer name dropping like Pam from RHOBH does has to be a script from Bravo. You could not pay me enough to humiliate myself like that in a foreign country. Wearing pumps on a Safari? Asking for hair and make-up? Asking for someone to carry you to the Jeep? I don’t believe that is real.

I like how the cashier told them that there are a lot of other people who would benefit from their purchases besides the orphanage. Shamwari takes all of the tourists to that orphanage. Also, did you notice that they had to get up early in the morning and the drive was only  fifteen minutes but there was a spontaneous mob of singing school children who just so happened to be out for a lunch break? This is classic “singing for our supper” orphan tourism.  Those kids on the side of the road did well being in the right place at the right time. I hope that village has a supplier who comes soon to restock! The ladies spent some money!
I must give Marlo credit on the orphanage visit though. She went right down to the kids eye level immediately and loved all over them. I think coming from the foster care system even she got that it was not the place to show out, though she did wear Louboutins.  Nene seemed the most taken aback by what she saw at the orphanage. She seemed to be having an epiphany about how blessed her life has been, even with her trials and tribulations.  Perhaps, that was a life changing moment for her because she sure seems like a different person lately. All in all I was very impressed by how they handled the entire orphanage outing. Each one of the housewives seemed genuinely touched and it was beautifully filmed. I can’t wait to see what the ladies get into next week!

Interesting comment on Marlo faking? Her comments on etiquette at the beginning of the trip just didn't jive with the other stuff about her. Then the silly obsession with large closets, which room she gets, hair and makeup and all of that just didn't make sense. As for the stilettos all over the place, sadly I can see her do that. Marlo is very insecure and unless she has her "costume" fully in place (designer duds, stilletos, hair and makeup) she has no self confidence. Her outfit is her armor. Sadly she looked exactly the same after as she did before, lol.It shocked me to see her in the orphanage and NeNe seemed the most "hesitant" at first with the kids but then warmed up. Wonder if it brought back painful memories for her and put her life in context like you said. She certainly doesn't seem to be as hateful as she used to be. Poor Cynthia, she really is more suited to the smalls with her personality and I think would have really had a great time away from the antics of Marlo. I can't figure out how NeNe put up with her, as she was so very obnoxious. I was so sad to see they didn't stay in the tents, girl u have no idea how much I wanted to see that.

Yeah, the etiquette comments were supposed to be from some book she read to prepare for the trip. I think he needed a book with broader topics than how to pass the salt. I've seen people with better manners on Day one of Charm School on VH1. And that show was all kinds of amped up for the cameras. I just don't think anyone could go through life like that. I am totally serious. It's got to be playing to the cameras. That said, I can't imagine anyone thinking it cute or worth a few dollars to show your ass on TV like that either. It's a mystery.

OMG at the dramatic dramatization of Sheree and Marlo! These Housewives shows wear me out.

I went against my better judgement and decided to watch the show last night. Why does these chick join these reality shows and put up these faux fronts. Marlo got on my nerves last night. B*** you on vacay, not a photo shoot. I was disgusted when she asked for hair and makeup. If it was that important why didn't she bring her own. I'm glad Nene was able to look at the Sheree and Marlo situation and see herself and hopefully make changes. I get so sick of these chicks talking about each other when they group off. They should have tried something new and mixed up the groups, but that won't happen since it doesn't make for great tv. Tamara I forget to say thanks for the updates every Monday since I don't watch RHOA.

Good afternoon ladies! I just have to say before I explode that Marlo really sends me over the edge! I have been more than annoyed with her since their arrival in Africa, but she really crossed a line for me when they were at the store buying things for the orphanage and she picked up a relaxer for one of the little girls and made that comment about her afro! She makes me have evil thoughts like leave her no class @ss out on the safari with the rest of the animals! Have a good day folks!

I don't think it's fair to criticize the afro comment. Marlo seems like she's a girly girl, and even Kandi was discussing it, because lord knows some of the girls probably DO want nice hair products and one can't just assume that you know what nice is…We all have our contribution to make. Some people just don't go very deep so they're contribution is going to reflect that. I mean, did anyone think Marlo or any of them were going to call a summit on public health and reform while there? No, this is the RH and they are going to buy hair products. Thousands of dollars of hair products. It's all baby steps. At the end of the day they did spend thousands on supplies that were much appreciated. Even if they bought out the store without regard to how the other people were going to get toilet paper- it's a start!Bless those children! And I hope Bravo left them with a Trump sized check! I'm sure we'll find out at the end of the season…

PSSSSSST! vp, you were the one in the orphan tourism thread who did assume that the girls would have a summit on health reform (more or less) 🙂 The hair relaxer comment was in extremely poor taste. It's one thing for American women to relax their hair and get cosmetic surgery to make their features more European. They are adults and that is their choice. But to hand a child in an orphanage in Africa a hair relaxer and imply or state directly that her natural beauty is not attractive is beyond the pale. That said, I think Kandi talked Marlo out of it.

All I could think was surely Marlo is getting paid to act like an idiot. No one, I mean, NO ONE is really that shallow….right?I kept thinking about you Tamara when they were at the orphanage and wondering if they had to move the ladies through because they had a big tour coming in from Japan at 2:00. I thought Bravo might bring attention to certain charities to support, hopefully the still will!Maybe I didn't understand the scene. It was heavily cut and confusing to be honest, but I thought the hair products were for the girls wearing the uniforms in the school yard?If Marlo was talking about bringing relaxer to the four year old orphans then yes, that would be too ridiculous to be believed and had to be scripted.

My wonderful daddy God rest his soul could not stand the word stupid – he rarely used it and if he did he really meant it – as a result he always taught his children not to use it unless they meant it – Sunday evening I found myself sayng on more than one occasion "Marlo is STUPID"! I really mean that, and I think my daddy would have agreed.By the time the relaxer statement came along I was too through. I was already numb from the idiotic behavior prior to that. I think Marlo was sincere with the relaxer comment – I truly believe she is just that clueless.I really enjoyed everybody's interaction with the babies though.

After watching I have to believe Marlo is faking clueless. Did anyone see she was the first one down to interact with the infected/affected little ones? Let her be a stupid-ass. She showed she has heart when the others were just afraid.
