John Mellencamp and presumably Meg Ryan have left Atlanta briefly this weekend to head to Tulsa, Oklahoma. Mellencamp will co-headline the This Land is Your Land Tribute Concert with Arlo Guthrie tonight in a celebration of the 100th anniversary of Woody Guthrie’s birth. The show is part of a year long global celebration of the life of Woody Guthrie. The Brady Theater hosts the event which also features The Del McCoury Band with Tim O’Brien, Rosanne Cash,The Flaming Lips, Hanson, Jimmy LaFave and Old Crow Medicine Show. The series of concerts will continue throughout the year and will include concerts in Austria and Germany as well as numerous U.S. venues.
Here in Atlanta, many of the performers in Mellencamp’s upcoming musical Ghost Brothers of Darkland County are performing around town and I have the tea on where you can catch a show and meet the performers in an intimate setting.
This Tuesday, March 13th Eddie’s Attic welcomes Justin Guarini to the stage. Justin is best known as the first runner-up on season one of American Idol but has appeared on Broadway in Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown and recently played Will in American Idiot the Musical. Joining Justin will be Kate Ferber, Peter Albrink and Lucas Kavner. March 20th performers include Dale Watson, Travis Smith ,Dave Onorato and Joe Knezevich, Ryan Wotherspoon, and Rob Lawhon and Kylie Brown and John Driskell Hopkins from Zac Brown Band. The final night on March 27th will feature performances by Russell Cook and Cameron Cook (aka Little Country Giants), and Stephanie Laubscher w/ Josh Fletcher.
