Vanessa Long Dismisses Divorce Petition

Sadly, AJC is reporting that Vanessa Long, wife of King Eddie of the Longstroke or whatever the hell he calls himself these days, has asked the courts to dismiss her divorce petition. Ain’t that something.  Vanessa petitioned for divorce in December of last year.  On the very same day that she filed an announcement was made that she was going to dismiss the petition; however, it was later apparent that the announcement came from New Birth church elders and not Vanessa herself.  Her attorney later stated that she was in fact moving forward with the divorce and that all further press releases should be ignored unless they came from him. The AJC story states that the online records from Dekalb County indicate that the charges have been dismissed. One of Eddie Long’s attorneys. Lawrence Cooper, confirmed to the AJC that the filings were dismissed BUT Vanessa Long’s attorneys declined to comment. Two days after Vanessa Long filed for divorce, Eddie Long stepped down from the pulpit “to heal his family”.  There are some of his “pictures taken in the bathroom mirror” on that post, btw.   Eddie was back in the pulpit in time for the New Year’s Eve service. A month later, he made national headlines when some bizarre ritual with a “Jewish Rabbi” declared him King of … well we still are not sure, but he’s a King.
Frankly, I want to believe this is not true. I have all sorts of thoughts going through my head about this. Maybe she just needs to refile something, it’s just a technical error. Maybe she is being coerced by the church elders. It has not escaped my notice that there is a new TLC reality TV show getting ready to film in Atlanta called Preacher Wives. Surely it is not that, y’all. Please tell me it is not that. I’m sad if Vanessa is going back to him for ANY reason, but don’t let it be that.

Atlanta Gets a King, Phaedra Parks is Already Making Plans to Meet Him

I don’t know how to respond to this other than to say Phaedra Parks now has an Atlanta King to rub elbows with.  For those of you unfamiliar with Eddie Long(stroke), he is a cult leader pastor of a mega church in Atlanta.  He made national headlines after several men who were members of his congregation during their youth accused him of sexual misconduct. The was a coverup settlement between Long and the men of an undisclosed amount.  Long’s wife finally filed for divorce in December of last year despite pressure from the church to rescind the divorce petition. The elders of the church are suspected of issuing a press statement stating that Vanessa Long was not going to go forward with the divorce; however, the divorce remains pending. Eddie Long stepped down from the pulpit for a few weeks to “heal his family” but I suspect that he was just taking more pictures of himself in the bathroom mirror.

As for the above video, it seems his congregation as forgotten all about Long’s vacation in Africa with under-aged boys and is back to slugging the Kool-aid. Once they stop walking around with Long raised on his new throne (I am not kidding) and start singing about preparing the way for the Lord, there is no need to watch any further. The creepy factor of this video, where a Jewish Rabbi wraps Long in a Torah Scroll (again not kidding)  and then proclaims him King of…??? Atlanta? New Birth Church? Ghana?  is off the charts.  I didn’t even know Rabbi’s could proclaim people to be Kings!

Eddie Long Steps Down From New Birth Pulpit.

In what is being called a sabbatical by some, Eddie Long told the New Birth congregation this morning that he will be taking a few weeks to “heal his family”.  I love sabbaticals. Heck, I’m on one now.  But I am taking a break from the insanity known as academia not from taking those awkward self-photos in my bathroom mirror or traveling to Africa with underage boys. I’m not fond of pictures, or boys. So, perhaps Long’s sabbatical will be a bit different.

Don’t worry though, New Birthers, Long says “I’m still your pastor. You’ll still receive my direction. You’ve given me some weeks to take care of some family business.”  I am sure this is reassuring to the congregation. There is no one I would rather take spiritual direction from than that guy, pictured above.  Praise the Lord, he is still available!

Long’s two children from his marriage with Vanessa were standing by his side on the pulpit. Vanessa Long was elsewhere seeking her spiritual direction as she has been for months.

Long said of course, that he is “not stepping down, he is stepping up.” Which of course means it’s opposite day at New Birth! I wonder if the sermon was from Matthew today. It might have been a grand ole Sunday to preach from oh, i dunno, say Chapter 24? Turn with me in the good book for a little peek. Matt 24:11 “And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many ” or Matt 24:24 “For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.”  Y’all be careful.

Y’all reckon he hangs those pictures somewhere in that megachurch of his?
