When last we spoke about drama surrounding Kenya’s contract, Kenya was unwilling to sign a contract for anything less than being a full-time peach holder and neither side was open to negotiation. And it appears the window for coming to an agreement ended on July 9th.
Truly Original and Bravo are not offering Kenya a full-time role under any circumstance. Tamara Tattles exclusive sources report that Kenya felt like she was in a place of strength due to the pregnancy that many of us were looking forward to seeing on the upcoming season. Production felt like she was forcing their hand and they didn’t like it. Production has been punishing Kenya ever since she had the audacity to elope. The punishment never seems to end.
So what was the deal with the July 9th deadline? Every three weeks Bravo cuts Truly Original an episode check for a rough cut. The first came Monday the 9th. In three weeks episode 1101 has to lock so they can get paid for 1102 on July 30 to start hammering that one out for three weeks and etc until all 20 episodes are finished. So now that Truly Original has their money they can prepare to pay cast. Since Kenya isn’t on the books the network didn’t include her salary in the per episode budget check they have already sent out. So it looks like a wrap for Kenya.
The thing is, production is not happy with the lack of options for a new housewife. Currently, they have either Marlo or Shamari DeVoe to replace Kenya (It seems a done deal that Eva will replace Sheree) Shamari isn’t in any of the scenes they are cutting for 1101 at least for now. Production wanted to keep Kenya around as a backup plan if the girls testing didn’t work out. Production’s contract offer to Kenya was basically a drastic pay cut for the same amount of work she did working full-time. Kenya held firm that she wanted a deal like Kim’s last season with an episode guarantee at her regular rate per episode, but production denied her request. At this point, production is just being stupid. They know they don’t have a decent replacement for Kenya and Kenya has the best storyline and they are just being petty. And so the bottom line is, Kenya is off the show. It appears to be a done deal. It seems the time has run out on the clock.
As for Marlo, the same exclusive sources that have been telling me that Marlo is “un-insurable” are singing a whole different tune after Kandi got a show picked on on WeTv that Marlo would appear on. Suddenly, Kandi got a talk show she’s been trying to get for years on Bravo and Marlo got a significant raise on RHOA and the WeTv deal was cancelled. For some reason production seems to have the money to pay for the high costs of insuring Marlo if they are considering her for a peach. I’ve never understood the insurance situation with her. I’ve just been told there is one and now suddenly they may be able to work around it.
In other news, we have new field showrunner this season who is an African-American female. I’m told that we will notice a difference in the show this season and I’m hoping that means less misogyny. She had a long conversation with Marlo about the “Bravo brand and how important it is to act accordingly.” That’s a quote because the Bravo brand is table flipping and wig shifting and dragging people by the hair at reunions. I’m just relaying what I’ve been told. Tamara Tattles sources speculate that since Marlo hasn’t had any stand alone story scenes yet, the conversations with her about the Bravo brand may indicate Marlo is the new backup plan if Shamari DeVoe doesn’t work out.
Months ago I heard this was going to be the season for a cast refresh. This doesn’t sound very refreshing to me.
I am sitting here not wanting to type that Kenya is out for the season. But at this time, that seems to be the case. I just can’t believe that after all this time of Kenya wanting a baby we are not going to get to see it on RHOA. I don’t think Kenya is due until after filming is over, so maybe they well beg for her to come back the following season? It looks like the big finale for this season will be Eva’s wedding.
