Right from the start Farrah is trying to steal the spotlight at this reunion. Dr. Drew announces that the plan was, like last time, for Maci, Amber and Catelynn to share the couch. Farrah was to be interviewed separately because she can’t get along with them. But it seems Farrah has thrown a tantrum and walked off backstage before filming even begins. Why can’t she be fired already?
The other women seem to have let go of their animosity toward Farrah at this point. They’re just annoyed and as over her as I am. Amber says she doesn’t appreciate that Farrah always tries to act like she’s better than them. Catelynn says it’s hard to watch the way Farrah treats her mom and if it were April, she’d be knocked out cold. Everybody laughs. Amber is also troubled by Deb’s comment that she wanted to die on the last episode. I think we all were, but there was just so much dysfunction on the finale, that part kind of got overlooked.
Drew asks the ladies for an updates on all their kids. Bentley is great at baseball and almost nine! That’s crazy to me. Jade is potty trained, Maverick is one, Leah is super smart and in karate, Nova is also potty trained—hopefully not finding poop nuggets on the floor of her bedroom. Then Dr. Drew asks if there’s an update on Carly. Cate looks like she’s about to cry and says, “Not so much.” They will come back to that later.
I think it’s worth noting that by not contractually obligating Farrah be part of this initial interview session, MTV is condoning her bad behavior. She needs to be forced to be part of the peer group that the show is based on. It’s not the Farrah show. She should have to sit with the other women, be accountable for her actions and answer questions about her parenting in front of them like everybody else. It’s like MTV thinks it’s cute that she’s a complete fucking psycho who is out of touch with reality and messing her daughter up.
Amber is first up. She’s still living with Matt and they’re “not together and not broken up.” WTF does that mean? Dr. Drew expresses concern that Matt isolated her from her family and she agrees. She is back in close contact with her family. She says she still loves Matt even though he takes her money. Dr. Drew probes about their finances. They co-own the house they live in, but she makes the money that pays the mortgage.
She says she’s gonna lawyer up and get the house. (A series of Amber’s now-deleted tweets this weekend made it sound like that’s the current situation). Drew says that’s going to be stressful for her mental state. She says she needs to stay strong for Leah and keep it all inside because people on social media idolize her. What? No. She needs to evict Matt, sue him for the money he’s taken and check into a mental health facility to rest awhile. Leah will be fine! She so lucky she has Gary and Christina. I’m baffled as to why Amber always thinks she needs to take care of Leah. Amber needs to take care of Amber. She’s no good to Leah until she handles her own shit. And that giant pile of shit is named Matt.
Matt isn’t at the reunion. He calls in and Dr. Drew asks him about stealing Ambers money. He says he didn’t steal it, he just spent it. Ahhhh. Matt has recently taken 90 grand or 120 grand (it keeps changing) out of their joint account. Um, why do they have a joint account? Amber is so stupid. Anyway, it sounds like Matt took his 27 thousand dollar MTV paycheck and a bunch of her money and went gambling in Vegas. Amber told him not to come back. He came back and put only about 20K back in the account and she’s pissed. Dr. Drew asks her where the rest of the money went. Matt says it’s in his backpack. Fuck me. Dr. Drew says they need to get therapy and separate bank accounts. Matt says he’s on board, but we all know that’s not going to happen because he’s a con man.
Gary and Christina come out and they seem so nice and normal compared to all the others. Amber gets along well with both of them. Gary says Matt is not allowed to drive Leah around since the Xanax thing in NYC because they aren’t sure how many pills he’s taking. Um, yeah. Also, Gary is worried Matt is stealing all Amber’s money and he reminds all of us that Matt was fishing for any Teen Mom girl he could catch before he hooked Amber. Christina is great, everybody is glad Leah has her. Gary really is a reasonable guy despite the fact it looks like his face ate a whole entire person.
Dr. Drew brings Maci out. She says the toughest part of the season has been the stuff with Ryan and his substance abuse. Turns out, there have been concerns about Ryan and his heavy drinking and possible drug use in the past, which I did not remember. Maci says she tried to talk to Jen a while back about Ryan and she was in denial that there was a problem. Maci said she didn’t want to bring it up to Mackenzie because she didn’t feel it was her place and didn’t want to mess up their relationship.
Mackenzie comes out and we all have to suffer through the horrible footage of Ryan driving high AF to the wedding ceremony again. Mackenzie said she confronted Ryan after the wedding and left him. He went to treatment and she agreed to come back. Maci reveals that Ryan came to her in the past about his addiction issues. He went to rehab back then, but obviously didn’t stay clean. Drew asks if Mackenzie knew about Ryan’s past issues with drugs, she says no. Maci says it wasn’t her business to say anything.
Mackenzie reads a letter she wrote to Maci because apparently she’s too stupid to have a swift and meaningful dialog on camera. She basically blames Maci for Ryan not getting treatment sooner, rattling off some absurd calculation about how many days and hours he could have died while Maci was “the only one” who knew he was using. She accuses Maci of exploiting Ryan’s addiction on camera in Puerto Rico for a storyline. It’s bullshit. After watching how Mackenzie covered for Ryan last week by turning off the dashboard cameras, I have no doubt that she knew exactly what was happening with Ryan. Anyway, it wasn’t Mackenzie or Maci’s job to get Ryan into treatment—it was up to Ryan to ask for help when he’s ready. Dr. Drew should have told her she was misdirecting her anger at Ryan toward Maci.
Mackenzie refuses to talk to Dr. Drew after she finishes her rehearsed statement. She walks off, but comes right back. I don’t understand why Drew isn’t asking Mackenzie about the details of Ryan’s using. What about calling her out for not making him pull over or asking why she shut off the cameras? Or the suspicious timing of their wedding? I guess maybe they decided he should leave the situation alone because she and Ryan already look bad enough.
I feel a little cheated.
Next week, Tyler and Cate talk about Butch’s relapse and Dr. Drew attempts to pin Farrah down about her relationship with Simon and why she hates her mom’s fiancee. SpoilerTee alert: she walks off stage. I expect nothing less.
