The most annoying thing about this show is the amount of times the experts remind us that the couple married as strangers and hardly know each other. I’m finding Dr. Pepper extremely annoying already and the show just started.
Ashley and Anthony
Anthony seeks advice from Ashley’s father who tells him that Ashley is the more laid back of his two daughters so he got the easier one to deal with. This doesn’t seem to comfort Anthony much. But then he gives Anthony some really good advice about women in general. He says “sometimes women just need to vent and you don’t need to do anything.” If only more men knew that. Anthony walks away for that conversation deciding that he doesn’t even need to have a conversation about Ashley’s meddling sister. Um, see, I don’t think that was the message you were supposed to receive.
Anthony admits to us that he is having stronger feelings about Ashley. Ashley says that Anthony is exactly what she was looking for. Ashley takes Anthony for a mani/pedi.
Rachel comes to talk about their intimacy. When Anthony meets with Rachel alone, he mentions a few emotional intimacy issues, including Ashley taking his name, and her sister’s meddling and Ashley oversharing with her family. Ashley tells Rachel everything is great at first, and then becomes paranoid that Anthony has said something about Ashley being “too much for him.” Ashley is suddenly paranoid and insecure. She seems to think that Anthony betrayed her or said something negative about her during his session. She’s starting to get that pissy attitude. Then she says everything is fine and she will not be crying on camera. Later, Ashley says that Rachel implies that him being support of her and a good problem solver was a lot of pressure for him. Anthony never said that and now they have an issue they never had before. Thanks, Rachel.
Danielle and Cody
When we last left these two, there was a dueling scene filming scheduled where Cody was going to go out with his friends and Danielle was going to go out with hers and they would all meet up later in the evening. Other than filming both of them bitching at the camera about the other, I see no reason for this. Apparently, neither does Cody because he’s decided not to go. The next day they have an awkward talk about it that goes nowhere. The dogs seemed to be used as a shield to avoid physical intimacy.
Cody goes golfing with Zach, his good friend, to talk about marriage. He admits they still haven’t had sex. He doesn’t seem to realize that is entirely his fault. Cody sucks at golf.
Rachel comes to talk about intimacy. Good luck with this, Rachel. Cody implies it is because of their work schedule. It seems no real encouragement occurred with Rachel. Perhaps she knows this ship will never sail. Oh wait, she wasn’t done yet. She tells them to be patient.
They go out on a bit date, to a dance class. Blargh. Danielle let Cody lead. Sort of. She seemed to enjoy the date. Cody realizes that he should probably make an effort. They both seem ready to go home and do the deed. I am not optimistic. This has happened before and they both waited on the other to initiate it.
Sheila and Nate
Nate and Sheila’s dad are still arguing about Sheila’s sister not coming to the wedding because her boyfriend was not invited. I can see both sides of this situation. If I had a sister getting married and my boyfriend wasn’t included, I’d be pissed. If I was getting married and by sister didn’t show up because I could only have 25 guests and her boyfriend I barely knew was not one of them, I’d also be pissed. But ultimately Nate and his Father-in-law should not concern themselves with this situation. It’s none of their business. Nate handles the situation very well while Sheila and her mother furiously, quietly clean the kitchen. Sheila was impressed as well.
Rachel comes to talk to them about their intimacy issues. The major issue is that Sheila has never had an orgasm. This is a lot of pressure to put on Nate in my opinion.
Oh no. Sheila and Nate are going to a driving range. I am having flashbacks of ping pong. I hope that Sheila sucks at this. She doesn’t, but Nate does. This time Nate is supportive of her and laughs at his lack of skills. Progress.
Later they go out to dinner. Sheila encourages Nate to bring up any issues he may be having. He says that is concerned, likely based on the fact that she brought up some negative experiences she has had with men sexually with Rachel that she will use those experiences to predict Nate’s future behaviors. Sheila is a bit concerned about the age difference and the differences in maturity level. She is concerned that Nate still wants to go out to the club. She has been cheated on and wants a husband who prefers to stay in. Nate asks her if she trusts him to behave appropriately in a club when she is not around. And we end there as she is waffling on her answer.
Next week: Sheila officially takes Nate’s last name. Cody and Danielle was a dog. sigh. And Ashley continues to be defensive.
As far as the Second Chances so goes. Both Vanessa and David are horrible on this show and I now understand why their first attempts didn’t go well. Vanessa seems to be some sort of human resources head hunter interviewing men for the position of husband. She asks them things, and tells nothing about herself. She implies that she is a sexual person and then sort of side eyes the guys if they want to end a date with a kiss. She’s cold and impersonal but manages to pull it off with a smile. She does nothing to put the guys at ease and is then questioning why they are not opening up.
David sent someone home for dating someone else during filming even though he is dating other people. He ignores several of the girls who are interested to take the same girl on multiple one on ones. He is not making an effort to get to know all the girls. Then he makes poor selections and holds that against all the girls. He seem irritated that one of the girls has not told her parents she is doing the show even though most of them have withheld information from their parents. Like Vanessa, he seems to have no compassion for what his dating pool is sacrificing for him to figure out who he wants to be with. It’s just gross.
