I’m going to pretend it’s December 26 because it seems fitting to watch Ladies Of London on Boxing Day. Not only is it a British holiday, but the name sums up the sparring between Caroline Stanbury and Julie. And Sophie. And Adela. Pretty much between Caroline Stanbury and anyone who doesn’t kiss her ass on the regular (so anyone other than Juliet). The disastrous trip to Mapperton brought out a new side of Caroline Stanbury. When shouting and bullying didn’t get her her desired reaction, she opted for pity. Poor little rich girl was so scarred by her posh childhood that she gets to act as awful as she wants with no repercussions. And when my beloved Adela didn’t play along, she earned the top spot on Caroline Stanbury’s hit list. Granted, it wasn’t very nice to say that Caroline Stanbury must have been exhausted from being chauffeured and having her makeup done, but it was honest… And how did that translate into Caroline Stanbury keeping her children from attending their cousin’s birthday party just to hurt Sophie? Oh, what a tangled web of retaliation and manipulation! The Vanderpump Rules mean girls could learn a lot from La Stanbury.
We begin with Marissa meeting up with Caroline Stanbury’s least favorite ladies (Julie, Sophie and Adela). After a long, rough pregnancy Marissa is ready to party. She wants to get everyone together which leads to a Mapperton rehash. Julie is overjoyed Marissa in back. She thinks she’ll somehow protect her from Caroline Stanbury.
Caroline Fleming is writing another cookbook. She loves being the Danish Martha Stewart and she actually needs the money. The Fleming payout wasn’t quite as generous as the newspapers made it seem.
Caroline Stanbury has a lunch date with her husband. It’s the perfect opportunity to complain about her friends. Cem tries to make her see how hard the divorce is on Sophie. He encourages her to be forgiving. She is not receptive.
Julie’s husband is actually in London. It might be the first time we’ve seen him in the family home. He teases Julie about her gross, healthy cooking. At least she doesn’t put spirulina in the broccoli mash.
Rania, the woman who ran Gift Library for Caroline Stanbury, is still running her life. Which includes making her coffee, apparently. Luke, Caroline Stanbury’s makeup artist and paid friend, brings up the rumors that she is running away to Dubai to escape legal issues. La Stanbury doesn’t like that, especially coming from “housewives trying to play business.” Hmm, seems like that insult could be used to describe Caroline herself. She decides Marissa started the rumors. Welcome back, Marissa.
Julie’s daughter is getting ready for graduation. Julie is freaking out (understandably). Oh, wow. Julie’s two oldest children are from a previous marriage. Interesting that this is the first we’re hearing of this. So not only did Luke marry an American, but a divorced American with two children? Good on you, Viscount Hinchingbrooke. And quite a sign of the times that you got to keep your title (although it’s probably not as big a deal when you’re not a King).
Caroline Fleming is back in Denmark to do an ad for check on her family home. Just like British estates, Danish royalty need their homes to make money. Hopefully the airtime will help.
Sophie and Adela meet. Adela is having a hard time. She’s a recovering addict and her ex-husband is using that against her to get custody of their children. Her Caroline Stanbury problems are just the icing on the cake. Sophies reminds her that Caroline needs an army of yes-men around at all times and lacking that, she’s losing it. It does explain her amped up evilness this season.
Marissa is throwing a party for the girls. Everyone has to wear balloon hats. It’s very Marissa. I assume Caroline Stanbury won’t do it, especially since she thinks Marissa is making up rumors about her. Caroline claims she won’t bring up the rumors at the party which means she’s definitely going to bring up the rumors at the party. She arrives last with her lap dog Juliet in tow. Adela bites the bullet and pulls Caroline aside to apologize. Not surprisingly, Caroline isn’t gracious about it. She yells. She browbeats. She’s La Stanbury. Adela breaks down. She shares that she just found out she’s not getting her kids back and Caroline cold response is to inform her she can’t take it out on her. How does Caroline have any friends? Adela is sobbing. The ladies want to comfort her but Juliet stops them. This is Caroline’s moment and Juliet makes sure she gets it. In all fairness, Caroline eventually comforts Adela and things end on a good note.
Next week: Party girl Sophie par-tays. Marissa confronts Juliet about mommy-shaming her for her New York trip. Caroline Stanbury pisses off Caroline Fleming, Sophie tries to repair things with La Stanbury but is rebuffed (again).
