The Oscars 2016: What Will They Wear? Who Will Win?

Oscars Chris Rock

With no Bravo shows or Downton Abby tonight, I guess we all have time to watch The Oscars!  Or curl up with a good movie. What will you do? I was thinking about dashing out for a quick haircut, but I have this crazy sickness thing happening. I feel fine, then I don’t, then I’m fine again.  Despite planning on going after the Dance Moms Recap,  I’m back to the yucky feeling stage so I may just curl up with some ice cream I bought when I first came down with this wishy washy illness. It’s at least a good reason for ice cream.

I am interested in seeing Chris Rock’s opening. With all the drama concerning the lack of black nominees (only one and that was The Weeknd for a musical award) and some people boycotting and others trying to get Chris Rock to give up his gig, it should be very interesting for a change.
oscars

The carpet is already crowded. Due to photo restrictions, I probably won’t update with many pictures. I really might go to bed early tonight. It’s very rare that I have a Sunday night off!

I’m hoping Eric and the other interns will keep us up to date on what is going on in comments.  Feel please jump in and share your thoughts. I just spied a beautiful chartreuse dress on someone with a big high bun in the background. I wonder who that was!

Are you watching? What are your plans for the night?

“It should be very interesting for a change”
    Love you Tamara

  2. For alternate viewing you guys might want to watch the new show on HBO “Vinyl”.

  3. Whoopi looks so uncomfortable in that gown. My condolences to the designer.

  4. Cat

I’ve been cleaning and organizing all day, so tonight, I think I’ll just channel surf. I don’t know what I’m going to watch. But, it probably will not be the Oscars.

    Ice cream sounds good.

  5. Lime Brain

I’m watching the E channel coverage. Guilianna and Brad are there. I keep waiting for Nene to crash the red carpet.

  6. Lime Brain

I did not like the dress Sophia Vergaro was wearing. It’s a Marchesa. I think the dress would look pretty on someone else’s body. I keep waiting for her books to fall out.

    • Lime Brain

“Books” is code word for boobs. Autocorrect does not like boobs.

    • Lime Brain. When my older 2 sons reached the age they were comfortable commenting on girls big boobs it became to much,. I let it go for quite awhile finally telling them to stop. All they did was change the wording to big brains.
I still smile at how they grinned at me.

  7. Lime Brain

Alicia Vikander’s yellow dress is my favorite one so far.

  8. Working, but will hang out here if it get quiet.

  9. Not impressed by anything I’ve seen so far! I know people tried to dazzle but somehow the body may not match the dress or something! I really like Robin Roberts’ dress though, very interesting color!

  10. Lime Brain

Ok, what the F is that red dress some co-host is wearing? Why? Why? Why?

She’s sitting next to Kris Jenner as they critique dresses. Her top has a giant upside down heart shape and her humongous boobs have these red straps encircling them as they are pouring out.

I thought she was kim Kardashian at first with that outfit.

  11. OK…OK…I’m up from my nap now, and only mildly sludgy and cranky. I’ll smoke a couple and let the caffeine hit and I’ll be fine.

But in the meantime, how short is Matt Damon? Robin Roberts is towering over him. I didn’t know he was a little person!

  12. Hey TT, hope you feel better soon. Spent the day up in N Georgia mountains at my in-laws; was so nice out today that I got a good bit of sun so I’m enjoying a cocktail and will turn in early. I can’t stomach the reverence paid to nonsense on the red carpet but definitely plan to watch Chris Rock’s opening…just to see if he stirs the pot at all. If anything goes down I can’t wait to hear your take on it!

  13. Oh Mark Ruffalo, you are sexual catnip to me. Why the ugly blue jacket? Tsk tsk.

  14. Cate Blanchett’s gown was getting some negative reaction but I don’t care. I LOVE it!

  15. Josie

I love to see the fashion and I am rooting for Chris Rock. He is one of my favorite comedians.

I miss Joan Rivers because I would always love the next day’s Fashion Police coverage.

  16. Spilledperfume

I am watching the E! Live From the Red Carpet and Guiliana mentioned that Ryan Seacrest had given her a gift because they’ve been working together for 10 years and she pulls this huge locket out from her dress and there is a big pic of Ryan’s face in the locket. I thought it was his real gift to her but then he presented her with her real gift. It was a gold necklace with her sons name spelled out in script.

Here comes Chris Rock – gotta go.

  17. Anyone else notice Whoopi’s gown was an “homage” to Bette Davis’s “fasten your seat belts” gown from All About Eve? Minus the sable trim Davis’s had though.

Or did she say that and I missed it?

    • Spilledperfume

      Yes, she mentioned it.

    • tamaratattles

Yeah she did. She said it was the designers Idea. Some couple whose last name I forgot. The big news is some blog no one has ever heard of confused Whoopi for Oprah and everyone is losing their shit over it and the blog is being dragged.

WHY DIDN’T I THINK OF THAT? IS IT TOO LATE? That site must be blowing up with views!

      • TT, mix up Matt Damon and Leonardo DiCapprio.

      • Jujue

        Lol lisamia ?

      • “The big news is some blog no one has ever heard of confused Whoopi for Oprah and everyone is losing their shit over it and the blog is being dragged.

TT, it isn’t too late to get in on that one…..just do a story on how much you enjoyed Kevin Hart’s opening on the Oscars….LOL….

  18. tamaratattles

Apologies to whoever was the last person to comment when I tried to add my comment. I used to be able to do it through my email. I keep forgetting I can’t do that.

What I said was, I love Chris Rock going in on Jada Smith. ” Jada Smith boycotting the Oscars is like me boycotting Rhianna’s panties! We weren’t invited!”

Then he called the Academy racist. It was really good! All the white folks were unsure whether to laugh or not.

    • JennLovesAndy

Yeah that was pretty awesome. Sorry but Jada is just pissed about her husband’s snub. Sometimes you have to ask yourself, was he really that good?!?

      • KarenD

Paraphrasing Chris Rock: “Yea, we get it, it isn’t fair that Will Smith didn’t get nominated for Concussion. But it also isn’t fair he got paid $20 million for Wild, WIld, West!”

Chris was an equal opportunity caller outer. He rightly slammed the academy and he rightly slammed all the people who get their knickers in a twist over small things.

      • Miguel

I know it’s a rhetorical question, Jenn; however, I’d like to respond with a resounding “NO!!!!!!!!!!”

Maybe in the beginning, but after a while, ALL his characters became monochromatic, dull & redundant.

    • Sound like he nailed it. :)

  19. tamaratattles

This is problematic. They are going in a new order. I LIKE THE OLD ORDER, you watch best supporting actor and actress, go watch a full length movie and come back for best actor, actress and picture.

What fresh hell is this going in “the order the movies are conceived?”

This is fucking bullshit, this is. I was going to watch Fuller Holes dammit!

  20. SaraSally

    Isn’t that rich?

  21. tamaratattles

OMG That montage of the Best Picture movies with a random black person in each one was hysterical. Was that really Stacy Dash? Shut up y’all know I have facial recognition issues.

  22. tamaratattles

Okay, here is the order. After Supporting Actress I can watch an episode of The blacklist.

Here is the full rundown of tonight’s awards, in order of presentation:

    • Spilledperfume

Did you notice the yellow dress of the Best Supporting Actress winner Alicia Vickander? The silhouette reminded me of the dress the kid on Project Runway Jr. made.

  23. Soul Sista

The Red Carpet looks were a dud, but I really loved Cate Blanchett’s dress. She can do no wrong in my eyes. Chris Rock has saved the show for me. Mad Max is really cleaning up in the non-acting categories. Was the movie really that good? Visually it doesnt appeal to me, so didnt see it.

  24. Soul Sista

Love the Black History Month Minute skit. I almost thought they were gonna throw a bone to Will Smith! LOL

  25. tamaratattles

So no one knows what award we are on?

  26. Myra

You should be watching Shameless on Sunday. Awesome show!

  27. I hope this “Pop-Up-Video Oscars” thing is a one-and-done. Ugh.

    • Erica

      seriously? I loved it.

But perhaps that is because I always go to my parents’ house where we cook up a bunch of recipes we’ve never done before, and I have to answer to the “Who the hell is that?” question multiple times. Oh and there is “Why don’t I know these people? Where is Harrison Ford? Jack Nicholson?”

My dad is at least not a complete grumpy old man. He laughed hard at Chris Rock. Yelled “Run, Joe, Run” when Biden came on (all three of us wish he would) and appreciates himself some Gaga. (I think both parents got teary along with me when all the survivors came out, and at the emotion Gaga was obviously feeling)

  28. My boy Mark better win this. Sly’ll get it though.

  29. Wow, the vote must have split. I can accept Rylance. I’m disappointed for my boy Mark though.

  30. I say this every year, but I’m still PISSED that they’ve booted the Life Achievement/Thalberg/Herscholt awards off of the telecast. They don’t have time for GENA fucking ROWLANDS and Debbie Reynolds? And Spike Lee?

    That’s some bullshit.

    • Erica

I’m worried about Debbie – it didn’t look like she even showed up for the ceremony in November. And yes, I miss that the acceptance for at LEAST the Humanitarian award is not televised!!!!

      • I’m worried about Debbie too. I know she fell and hit her head a couple of years ago and I fear she hasn’t been the same since and that’s a tragedy. In interviews I’ve seen of her since then she’s seemed…rather…scattered. I hope I’m wrong and I hope she’ll be with us for many more years because she’s a national treasure.

  31. More griping:

Although the look of the In Memoriam segment was improved this year, they gave pride-of-place to NIMOY? What? His medium was television for chrissake.

That should have gone to Maureen O’Hara, a true and magnificent movie star.

    • Erica

Sorry – going to agree to disagree with you regarding dear Leonard Nimoy. Star Trek has gone WAY beyond a simple TV show at this point. Star Trek inspired many a sci-fi movie maker (not to mention real astronauts!).

He was a director as well as an actor in movies and someone inspiring to multiple generations. (Actually, to those under the age of 40, he’s a movie person, not TV. ))

Do I love Maureen O’Hara? Yes… but honestly, do I expect her to be as well known among multiple generations as much as Nimoy? No. I get that I’m an old movie buffoften alone in my love and knowledge of wonderful artist like her.

  32. Soul Sista

These celebrities are so arrogant…Lou Gossett Jr stood immediately when VP Biden came on stage, it took a bit longer for the others to follow suit. Ugh, no respect!

Coming up, original song & original score…

  33. DarkThoughts

I thought I was hallucinating when Stacey Dash appeared on the Oscar stage. If fact to make it to the end of this year’s ridiculous Oscar award show I may need some magic mushrooms.

  34. Soul Sista

Best directing went to The Revenant…down to the last 3 awards!

  35. Wait: Tom McCarthy is an Oscar-nominated director now? I had no idea!

I’d thought he hit his career peak acting with Candice Bergen in that TV remake of the Mel-Gibson-running-around-in-tiny-shorts movie, TIM.

    Crazy world.

  36. Dammit! Brie Larson? This night is shit. None of the right people are winning. Well, Charlotte Rampling is still a GODDESS, Oscar or no.

  37. Toni Lee Gildea

    Leo just won

  38. I missed must if the Iscars and U was looking forward to it.
Anyone read the ROOM? Good reading.

I wanted Fuller Holes to be porn.
Nothing is going my way today.

    • Spilledperfume

      It is porn?

    • Mothra42

I did a written interview with Emma donoghue (the author of the book), for an earlier title. She’s a terrific writer. Haven’t seen the film but the book was excellent.

    • I can’t even comment legibly tonight.
      ” most” of the “Oscars” & “I” not U.
Must have been the disappointment about the porn.

I read this year Oscar voters were told to vote their top 3 choice’s by number. Oscars only counted the #1 vote, #2 & #3 were not looked at. (why ask for them?)
#2 could had the most votes, I may not be explaining it right. The way ppl were told to vote was messed up.

  39. Spilledperfume

I’m shocked at the winner of Best Movie. I wasn’t expecting that.

    • LisaPat

Me too.. but Spotlight was a story that needed to be told. I got into the biggest argument with a Catholic man in a bar the other day regarding this movie. I liked it. Him, not so much.

      • Spilledperfume

I agree that it needed to be told. I’m Catholic and went to Catholic school and that stuff went on and it was swept under the rug.

      • Erica

I thought Spotlight was absolutely respectful of devout Catholics. The system that protected the predators? Not so much. It also is just an example of how people/cultures/communities can put their head in the sand. It wasn’t all that long ago that domestic violence was just considered “between the two of them” and something that others shouldn’t be involved in – including the police and the criminal justice system. Remember, it used to be “impossible” for a husband to rape his wife. In some communities – that is still the case.

Anyway – that is part of the conversation that my friend and I had after watching Spotlight last Tuesday.

I was absolutely surprised it won though – thought it would be between The Revenant and The Martian.

  40. Susie sonar

You don’t know when to use gone and when went is the correct choice? And you were a teacher? Jesus Christ!

    • tamaratattles

I put your window licking comment through because I find your attempts to correct people’s grammar hysterical. You should try to use situations that actually occur on the posts you are correcting though. There are tons of options for grammar Nazis here. But you don’t seem capable of finding any of them.

      • Spilledperfume

She can have a field day with me alone. I shall even help her out. I don’t know when to use then or than.

That’s not counting all of my typos.

        Correct away.

    • Hey, Susie sonar, go fuck yourself. How’s that for good grammar?

    • Yo Susie, you would be in bad grammar hell reading my comments if you dropped in more often.
I’ve read a few of my older comments and wonder when I lost it. I decided to stop worrying and not give a rats ass.
Guessing TT wince’s at times but likes us in spite of our bad grammar. It is a friendship place. Try it sometime.

      • Judilu

Y’all have convinced me to read Room..It’s in my Kindle and I have been scared it will depress me but I am almost done with Orange is The New Black ( it is okay) reading it after the series…thanks!!

      • Judilu

I replied on the wrong thread …..that Susie is probably going to get on me bout not knowing about the internet

    • Toddy

Sonar like a bat? As in dingbat or batshit? Fly far, far away!

  41. More Tea Please!

I didn’t watch the show last night but am catching up on fashion fails online. Holy shit, what a disaster Heidi Klum was wearing. Like THE WORST BRIDESMAIDS DRESS EVER!

  42. Spilledperfume

This was a fun way to watch the Oscars. I liked reading everyone’s comments as the night went along.

There might have been a bottle of wine as well on my end.

TT, I have a comment in moderation, please feel free to delete it as it’s slightly repetitive.

  43. Sunshine

I thought Chris was funny and did very well. I was in and out so I didn’t catch all the wins and fashions.

  44. Pip

    #OscarsSoLame

I thought this was awful. It felt like I was being lectured from the pulpit.
I am a pretty big awards show fan, but this was the worst I have ever seen. It was like a never ending PSA.

  45. I was really surprised that Yolanda Hadid Foster Hadid didn’t win for best performance, best make-up, best original script, and best wardrobe on social media touting an invisible disease. What? Those aren’t categories? Guess we’ll have to wait for the movie.

Please Read the COMMENTING RULES before commenting.
