Dance Moms Recap: Mama Drama

Abby LeeIt’s time for another episode of Dance Moms. I’m sorry, but I really am going to need for Mrs. Miller to die on this episode. I think it is fine to acknowledge her passing on the show as she was a part of Dance Moms. However, I simply can’t deal with the play by play of each moment of her death. We are already starting with Melissa coming in to let Abby know that she been to see Mrs. Miller. For the love of  God can we get on with the pyramid and the bashing of little girls?

Abby congratulations the girls on their 13 straight wins. Then she asks, “Is that time for your teacher to celebrate? Or time for your teacher to get tough?”  I think we all know the answer to that. When Maddie had a long winning streak, there was cake and unicorns. But since this is the group on a winning streak there will be gruel and dragons. Next week “the new team” arrives. Will we finally see Thalia? In other things I could care less about news,  Mackenzie is shooting her video for her song, Girl Party. nia dance moms

Time for pyramid. Last week, Nia came in third right behind Kendall and some unknown dancer who took first. She was not allowed to dance in the group because of costume issues. It was a fantastic solo and a great week for Nia. So of course Abby puts her last, because she hates Nia. Next is Kendall. She came in second. SECOND. Abby doesn’t know how anyone could possibly live with that. She suggests Kendall just kill herself. Okay she doesn’t but she might as well have. In shocking news, KALANI is next. This is surprising. She adores Kalani. She mutters something about technical issues. I think she is still just pissed with Kalani’s mother. Kalani and Chloe’s duet took first place!  Next up is Mackenzie. This leaves Chloe who won a duet, and Maddie who didn’t have a solo.  Guess who is on top? If you guessed Chloe, you do not watch this show.

This week the dances are all about Mrs. Miller.  I guess it is better than having to dance to a song about what a big bitch your mom is. So of course Maddie gets a solo, called Come to the Caberet.  It’s a musical theater piece. This of course means Kalani will not get a solo. So Chloe actually gets one called, Friday Night. It’s about the 1950s. Not sure yet on the genre. Edit: It’s musical theater. The group dance is Amazing Grace, which I am sure will be a tear jerker. They are reworking Maddie’s previous Amazing Grace solo into a lyrical group performance. Mackenzie will not dance at this competition because she has a video to shoot. Abby takes another unnecessary shot at Nia.

Everyone except Chloe was selected to dance in Mackenzie’s video. Abby has way too many things happening in one week as she tries to throw herself into her work to avoid facing her mother’s death. This week could be a total disaster. Chloe’s routine is only about a third worked out. “James” who we have rarely if ever seen before is doing the choreography instead of the usual girl who does their choreography.  She’s being set up to fail. She seems confident though saying that musical theater is her best genre and she rarely gets to do it.

danceAt the video shoot, some lesser moms from ALDC are there with their kids who are also in the video. Clearly, there is a lot of jealous from those moms toward the chosen ones. One of the moms talks about how her kids have already beaten Mackenzie in competition. The filming is at Mackenzie’s house and this mom is being super disrespectful. Melissa throws the mother out.

Meanwhile, Chloe had no solo rehearsals because both of her private teachers cancelled on her. She still hasn’t gotten her full choreography. Abby is berating the hell out Nia during the group dance rehearsal. Abby calls Holly down to the dance studio so she can hear her berating her child. Holly is not having it.

Melissa gets word that a group of girls from Larkin Dance are coming to the competition. Everyone is a bit intimidated. The moms don’t think the group dance is good enough to beat them since they spent so much time on the video this week.  The new team arrives next week. The moms are already stressing about pyramid in front of the new team next week should the girls lose this week.

Studio Larkin is doing a group dance called Tears of an Angel. Apparently, they have already won against ALDC with that dance. Christi is upset that Maddie is making ugly comments to Chloe.  She allegedly told Chloe “she is not that good.” This is just production trying to get me all excited that Chloe might beat Maddie. I have given up on that happening seasons ago.

Maddie’s solo is first. She has some new faces. Her dance was fantastic. As usual.

Chloe’s dance was fine. She too has some new faces. Her choreography was mediocre.

Next we saw the Larkin Studio group dance. It cannot possible be a small group dance in the same division as the ALDC girls. These dancers were older, and thicker and there were way more of them. I don’t see them as being competition as long as the ALDC girls dance perfectly.

The girls group dance was amazing. I have no doubt they won. That song along will bump up their scores. I must admit that Nia was a tiny bit behind for a brief moment. But other than that it was flawless in my opinion.

Chloe got fifth for her solo. Studio Larkin took fourth, third and second, Maddie took first.

Wow. Amazing Grace lost. They came in second. This is not good. Studio Larkin took first. Much has been made of Studio Larkin. I suspect ALDC will be poaching from them for the team next week. That one kid who accepted the group award might have even been Thalia. The moms are pissed because their group team was stacked with fifteen year olds. Abby told the girls that she is not made at them, because it wasn’t about the competition this week.

No one believes Abby. They are all dreading pyramid next week when her wrath will be unleashed.

Next week: The new team arrives and the moms immediately begin to brawl. I can’t wait.

I’ve always thought maddie was a little snot. I think she is a diva behind the scenes.

    • She is! I learned that in season 2 when she threw a big nasty tantrum becasue Chloe won the Joffery scholarship or whatever it was Abby had all the girls auditioning for. When they were told Chloe won, Maddie stomped off to the other oom crying and pushing her little sister (who was trying to comfort her) out of the way. Melissa actually went back there and told Maddie to cut it out and be happy for chloe but she continued to boohoo. She has also said something unkind to someone else and I can’t remember who it was.

Next week Abby is going to be a bitch on wheels! You just know with the loss, her mom dying and the new girls (and moms) coming in it will be a horrible episode. But yeah, I’ll watch! ;)

Maddie is a huge brat, and it’s her mother and Abby’s fault. I ‘m not making excuses for her but she is a child, as adults we see right from wrong but forget that as children it’s not easy. As kids it’s a whole nuther world, hopefully you grow up even if the adults in your world never do.

I hope Maddie grows up before her mother and Abby ruin her life.

This is actually not true. They edited to make it look like Maddie was upset over the phone call. The girls on the competition team tried out for different scholarships. Chloe auditioned for ballet and Maddie, and some of the other girls, auditioned for Jazz and Tap; something along that line. Maddie received a scholarship too but neither she, or Chloe were able to take advantage of it due to filming conflicts. Dance Moms does this a lot. The editing is not very good.

I think she has been able to get away with far too much that hasn’t been on the show, because she is the super star, but a few times we have seen her facial expressions that she is pissed at the other kids. She IS her mother’s daughter.

  2. Riley

Just like Lindsay Lohan, this too is predictable. And just like willlynn, I will also be watching…:-)

I have searched and searched, but is Christi pregnant?! I’ve seen her belly a few times and wasn’t sure, in this episode though it seemed so prominent.

    • Ohnos

Oh I don’t know, I didn’t notice. I was more jaw dropped on Abby being so mean, and smh at Maddies mom always trying to turn the whole Mrs.Miller thing into all about her. Come on really, it’s not about you.

      • Liz

Haha yeah I usually don’t even notice stuff like that. But I’ve literally looked EVERYWHERE and can’t find a thing.

      • If Christi was pregnant you would know. It seems really odd to me that a female would see another female on TV who appeared to have put on 2 or 3 pounds and do an extensive Internet search to find out if she were pregnant. But I’m hormonal today, so maybe it’s just me.

Probably not. She’d probably say. But I don’t look at or think about that. Someone could gain 20 pds and I probably wouldn’t notice. Not to be political, but would you notice or comment if it was a man?

      • Ohnos

But does it matter? The forum is about the show, not who is or isn’t pregnant.

      • Liz

I didn’t want to sound rude by no means in my comment so I apologize. It’s not that she gained a few pounds I wouldn’t have noticed that. Her belly is actually round like a 4 month pregnant woman and just want to know if anyone else had noticed. And no if it was a man I probably wouldn’t have said anything and wouldn’t at all, even if it is a woman but like I said her belly is round. Again I apologize if I sounded rude or offended someone.

      • Well thank god we have a hall monitor to say what this BLOG COMMENT SECTION (not messageboard forum) is about.

Weird, but I noticed her stomach too. I just though she was porking up and really should wear looser clothes. But, I guess it detracts from her schnozzola. So there’s that.

I recently found this blog and had to read all the archives because I was laughing so much and needed more. Best blog on the internet! Hysterical. Yet all while not being nasty. Kudos.

About Dance Moms, I’ve seen Abby on something previously say that this team was not picked by her but by the producers of the show, and she wouldn’t have picked some of them. Umm, Abby, it’s their show they can pick the team. But I think her ego is enormous now and she’s trying to make them leave so she can have the show and the team she picks.

I think the weakest link is Mackenzie, not that Abby should say she isn’t Maddie, and maybe she would be better if she wasn’t always given “baby” dances. But she’s only a year younger than Kendall and they’re given and treated a world of difference.

All of the little girls are very talented, but Maddie isn’t all that and a slice of bread. She’s a lovely little dancer but every dance looks exactly the same set to different music. The end is even is so predictable, three spins with one leg up and bent, drop to the floor. She really isn’t doing that little girl any favors. Maddie is in for a real shock when she grows up and wants a career. She’s good at the one dance, and Abby coddling her and never challenging her to grow won’t help her. Then add the attitude that she’s helping to create and it spells disaster for that little girl.

The past couple of episodes it sure looks like Nia is her new target, it could be because Holly doesn’t fight back so it’s easier for Abby to pick on her. Christie and Jill at least fight back to protect their daughters, Holly confuses me and she used to be my favorite mom because she seemed so level headed. Now it’s like she thinks being more like Maddie’s mom will get Nia more. It won’t because Abby didn’t pick her. Poor Nia, I feel so bad for her. No matter what she does it’s going to be wrong, and one episode Holly said she’s taking more classes. I cringe with the way she’s treated. And she’s not corrected, she’s criticized. I think in the early episodes she wasn’t the strongest dancer on the team, but just from watching she’s really grown in ability.

    • I have the same feeling toward Holly too. You can tell Nia is literally the token black girl whoo get no attention. I had a friend who was the one of the only black girls at her studio but her instructor actually paid attention to her, helped her strengthen her technique and next thing you know she was featured on ads for the studio and landed leads in Swan Lake and The Nutcracker. Nia is there to be a punching bag and when she is given a solo it’s always a and ethnic dance that requires low skill and maybe some acrobatics. I mean if you’re gonna have her dance to a negro spiritual at least push her to throw in some more turns. Have her improve her lines. I doubt she’ll be a working dancer and rely more on her education so I applaud Holly on the school front.

Abby wants Chloe to fail so bad. One competition they arrived and everyone was screaming for Chloe, not Maddie and I think that infuriates Abby. Despite her tactics the viewing audience likes Chloe more. She purposely gives that girl lack luster choreo when going up against Maddie b/c she wants Maddie to remain on top. Like you said that’s a disservice b/c Maddie will continue to be complacent and when she gets some real competition she won’t know how to handle it. I hope Kilani’s mom continues to press Abby about letting Kilani do solos when Maddie does them but even if she does she give her a solo she give her the Chloe treatment and give her mediocre choreo again just so Maddie can win smh.

Aww, no worries Liz. Yes it was a bit, umm, set back. But you’re a sweetie and sure didn’t mean harm and for sure don’t deserve , I’ll just leave it there.

  6. Ohnos

I LOVE this blog. Lol not only because people can say what they want but aren’t childish, but also because people can discuss misunderstandings, in. A gasp, understanding way….
Or god forbid, we can have different opinions. It makes the world go round. But not interested in the childishness , don’t find that here.

  7. Ohnos

And to Liz, I’m sorry. I may, probably, was to un-edge to your innocent comment. I’m sorry. Been reading way too many blogs and people I think. I’ll blame it on me, my bad, and not chronic lymes. I’m sorry. But if only 5 percent of my brain issue is functioning then I’m a zombie and please stab me in the head like Walking Dead because I don’t want to be that. Thank you in advance.

  8. GRAMMS

I was disappointed in the choreography that they gave Chloe that literally did not require any technical skills at all. They’re trying to sabotage this poor innocent child just to make Maddie look good. I honestly believe that Melissa is influencing Abby on the dances that are chosen for Chloe knowing good and we’ll that she’ll hardly place first. I really don’t like Maddie at all. She seems like a self centered brat.

  9. Nia is not picked on. She’s just not that good. And her mother knows that. It’s affirmative action.

I feel embarrassed for Melissa. That woman has no shame and will do anything to suck up to Abby.

People calling Maddie a brat are fucking insane. She’s a KID. Kids act immature. You are expecting her to exhibit graces that most grown women don’t have. She’s well mannered and very very dedicated to dance. I’m not clear why that makes her a brat. I think you’re all just jealous like Kristi. And it’s convinced you that it’s ok to shit on a child here. Shame.

This show has become so predictable and boring! it’s the same exact thing every week. We all know that the bottom pyramid is going to consist of Nia or Kendall and the top is going to be Maddie, or Kalani. Also at the end of dance competitions we already know maddie’s solo will come in first, and Chloe will be punished. Mackenzie is working on her girl party cd, and dear lord I know she’s only a child; but she should stick to dance or find another hobby–singing is not her skill. However, It seems like Maddie’s mom isn’t all about ‘team maddie’ anymore and realizes she has another daughter, and also feels some of the pain the girls and their moms go through when maddie is always considered #1. Also- another short little rant, everyone applauds maddie on her dancing facical expressions, but they’re so creepy and off putting to me. it’s the three same signature ‘looks’ every single time, doesn’t matter if the song is about death or celebrating, she smiles at wrong times.
