You may have noticed that other than posting a few of Alex McCord’s Rumorfix blogs, I haven’t discussed the Real Housewives of New York here at all this season.  This is mostly because I missed a lot of episodes watching The Glass House. In hindsight, that was probably a mistake. So it’s a pretty good day, and I could be out shopping, or home cleaning, or out eating she crab soup (which I may do later) or reading something of substance but I’m more in the mood to watch movies and blog about the housewives. I’ll forgive you if you don’t read this post. I’m sure it will be long like the last one.  But if you’re bored too, let’s talk about the Real Housewives of New York. I’m dying to hear what you guys think of this season.

First of all, I like the new housewives better than the old ones. It seems most people disagree. Ramona is just unwatchable this year. A little bit of Ramona goes a long way. This season we get all Ramona all the time. I am starting to believe she has more mental health issues that Kelly Bensimon on Scary Island. How did we not notice this before? I guess we did, it just seems so much worse this season. She’s  also suffering from Veteran Housewife Syndrome.  This is why we should not keep housewives for more than two seasons. They learn that the more they let their inner crazy out, and the more inappropriate they are, the more air time they get. Veteran housewives need air time like normal people need air.  This needs to be Ramona’s last season.

And then there is Sonja. Are we really supposed to believe this whole toaster oven storyline?  Do people even buy toaster ovens anymore? It is more original than being a brand ambassador for some random Moscato, but just barely. She’s catering events with toaster ovens? Really? Sometimes, she tries to out crazy Ramona. She sticks her face in a bidet. She asks one of her many “interns” to insert her tampons. But she doesn’t have the endurance for crazy like Ramona does so she mostly resigns herself to being Ramona’s sidekick.

As for the Countess, if the whole rest of the cast was relatively normal, she’d be okay as the cast member who lacks social graces. One would think that if you marry a Count, they would send you to some sort of finishing school where you learned simple things like the importance of maintaining your dignity, particularly on national television. But apparently, they don’t. I have to give credit to Bravo for encouraging to write a book on etiquette and a song about class. The best part is I think the irony is lost on her even now. I will give her some credit though. She is trying to latch on to the new girls and distance herself from Ramona and Sonja. But other than Aviva, I don’t think the new girls are overly impressed.

Which brings me to Aviva. I like Aviva. But of the three new housewives I like her the least. Aviva is the first real New York housewife the show has ever had.  I get the feeling she didn’t watch the show before she was cast and was a bit caught of guard when filming began. The producers apparently assigned her to Team Ramona, and she has thus far been trying to stick to that assignment. However, by the time the girls get to St. Barts next week, I think she will firmly align with Team New Girls. If we get rid of all the veterans next year, Aviva could step into the crazy limelight. Girl has a lot of phobias. But at least she comes by them honestly. I think anyone who loses their leg in a conveyor belt accident as a child is going to suffer some residual emotional effects in adulthood. I don’t understand why everyone coddles Ramona’s crazy and mock’s Aviva’s. As much as I want to like her, she just doesn’t seem genuine yet. Nobody goes all in on their “friends” for missing a charity event. That whole “It’s about the kids with missing legs!” routine was probably on a cue card behind Ramona’s drunken head.Heather has potential. She has a successful business and a proven track record. She’s married with two kids but I can’t recall ever seeing hair nor hide of them this season. Have they been on?  Am I just failing to remember? Because it seems to me she is always stuck fighting her own battles even when the veterans have their hubbies in tow. Shes seems smart enough to keep her family out of the fray. I love that she didn’t invite Ramona to London. She gets lots of points for that. She does lose points for the creepy smile she pastes on when she is irritated. She’s a good mix of successful and oddball. Let’s keep her around and let her get a bit more comfortable with the whole filming thing.

My favorite housewife of this season is Carole. She’s the first really intelligent housewife Bravo has cast on any season. And she’s a princess! She writes books and hilarious blogs and seems to really be enjoying the crazy ride of being on RHONY. She doesn’t take it seriously, she openly admits that she’s not crazy about most of the women. She lives in the village. She has an open relationship with a rock star who just coincidentally (*cough* reason for the trip *cough*) will be performing in St Barts when the girls are there). She’s perfect. I want her to have one too many drinks in St. Barts and tell the girls how she really feels.

What I really want is one or all of them to put the smack down on Ramona, and maybe even Sonja and soon.

Which RHONY do you like the best? Who do you hate?
