I was emailed some new information on the Furlong case from a reliable source. I’m going to bullet point the new info very quickly.
* The preliminary trial for Hinds is expected to start July 2
* The Furlongs will not go to Tokyo for the preliminary as it is expected to be fairly straightforward resulting in charges going forward.
* The Furlong family will attend main trial.
* Blackston is still being held but it no longer implicated in the murder.
* Video from the taxi shows Hinds in the front seat with Blackson in the back seat with the two girls. this makes me wonder how they could suggest Hinds groped the women in the backseat from the front seat.

….blackston got 3 year, which he 100% deserved…and he is credited with 3 months served…thus, he will come out in 2 year 9 months…..or dec 2015…….on the other hand…the Hinds case….it comes down to this, nothing fancy and no curve ball. He will get 5~10 years as the prosecution light-heartedly requested to the court. That means the jury will come back with the 5~10 years w/ guilty.
They will and cannot come back with 6 year or 8 years or 10 years…cannot be a fixed term because he is a Minor! A big win for the defense who managed very early on to request everything very very fast, in fact this murder case which involved so much for details and investigation was only a few days behind the blackston case, which is a sexual assault cased.
So if the prosecution delayed the case until next month…then hinds would have turned 20…..he would have received a good 20 to 30 years on this case. The bottom line is when the family court pushed it up to the tokyo district court…they wanted LIFE IN PRISON…since they could not get death because we all know that needs multiple deaths in the case. The prosecutors started their PR campaign to save face on wednesday, by saying “we will give him the max that is allowed to juvenile”….
come on now…we ALL know they wanted life…but they backed off…because THEY KNEW that if they went for life in jail with the limited “INTENT” and “SUFFERING” issue..2 very big components of a ‘murder’…they would most likely lose if the defense appealed to the higher courts…then ultimately to the supreme court.
When the prosecution understood firmly that the defense would appeal they had to suck up their pride and go for the 5~10 years…without telling people that HINDS will most likely get out in 5 years…so lets think about that…blackston gets 3…..or 2yr 9 months…for sexual assault in the taxi…and Nicola Furlong Case…a murder case….HInds gets 5 years max 10 years with 100 days credit…
Japan’s credit system is different, they calculate by saying every 1 day of trial is 30 days of preparation. ..this case itself was 8 days….so x 30 is 8 months……….so you do the math…..anyways..the prosecution never expected this kind of fight and they paid dearly by only getting a 5~10 max.
Ok…legally it was the first western type case in japan jury court system. It involved DNA…forensics…foreign on foreign in Tokyo…….the prosecution did all this to get a 5~10 year sentence…..well the defense was in celebration in tokyo on the victory…..the veridic day is all show….the victory party was held already.

Good point on the irish press going real quite….and lets note the the irish national newspaper were getting their information translated ready to go via Ireland embassy in tokyo…..they of course have been informed about the positive drug results..because they are the one who pleaded for SM to go home instead of staying in japan during this key investigation time. If you are snorting enough coke to OD, you are not going to be passed out. Coke and alcohol when mixed lead to alcohol not doing much of anything and the coke keeping you hyped up. You don't pass out from doing coke. This doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Notice its not GAVE them the drugs..not spiked the drinks….if the CCTV from the club (which they have) shows that he or dancer spiked the drinks…they would not be asking 'who gave' them the drugs. Again, thats THEM..meaning both girls tested positive..and N had a bloodily nose during the night reported by 3rd party people at club and the hotel bellman who wheeled them in. sounds like cocaine overdose to me……and hinds was with the dancer who got him into this mess..and then ended up with the girl who was on her way of OD……bad deal for him….

There is supposedly videotape from the taxi re the sexual assault on the other girl. However, from what I am told Hinds rode in the front and Blackston in the back with the girls. I'm not sure how one would assault a passed out girl from the front seat while sitting next to the driver. The video allegedly shows Blackston being the agressor in that attack.
I think that it depends on if the girl decides to tell the truth about what went down. I think she might have been down with it, if Hinds with the other girl is innocent. I drink a lot. but I've never had to be wheeled into my hotel room by a bellman. When traveling with friends we can be a drunken lot coming home but never has anyone had to be wheeled in to the room. This makes me think the drugging allegations are true. But by who? Hinds does not seem like the type to know where to get or even consider getting drunks for the purpose of harming a woman. I'd love to know where either of you are getting your conflicting information about the CCTV tape. Both at the hotel and in the taxi. I've seen nothing new in International print media in English. Would love to have more info on the topic. Keio plaza certainly advertises itself as a luxury hotel. I am currently in a hotel room in Curacao that also considers itself luxury ( lol it is not, it is good enough for me, but not luxury) However, they have a bellman 24hrs, as well and 24 hour security. I would imagine that if two white women in Tokyo were rolled in wheelchairs by two black men who had been at the hotel for awhile, this would cause suspicion. I recently followed a case in Florida with many similarities to this one. A wife died in the bathroom of cervical compression. Only her husband and children were in the house. He made a frantic 911 call. The victims entire family testified for the DEFENSE saying he would never do such a thing, they were very happy together. The man was declared not guilty and it was assumed by the jury she fell on a leather magazine holder while sick in the bathroom. I sort of think the right decision was made… particularly because of the family of the victim supporting the husband… but it still makes me wonder, did he get away with murder?I'm fascinated by trials like that. I'm the source of all sources. 1. CCTV shows the hotel bellman wheeling in both girls. Not hinds alone like it is being reported. The bellman laid nicola on hinds bed. 2. Nicola did not have sex, but played around. A friend of hinds called the room to check in on Richard to see if he got back ok. Nicola picked up the phone drunk and playful. So she was up. 3. Hinds pressured her neck ….as reported no marks or bruises. Police are saying they were drugged, attempted rape then killed because hinds didn't get his way. Now they are having a hard time proving it. Autopsy expert stated to the prosecutor that something soft was used because the hands didn't kill her…a soft object was used…the entire room was checked for DNA evidence…nothing….All eyes are focused on the toxicology which will show what was in her body. Blackston will get 3-5 years the CCTV shows him fingering SM for a good 15 min while she is sleep in the taxi.

Just google torture and America. It is a case of the pot calling the kettle black. Japan does not figure high on Amnesty Internationals list of countries advocating torture, it is a far graeter problem in the US. Like I said if you have evidence that this man was tortured in Japanese police custody then you should publish it.

I also think this is the point.They think Blackston is principal offender for rape.They need the testimony from Hinds.This case take ages you think. But this case is more little quick speed than another crime like this case in Japan. Cause there are lots of evidence. But basically Japanese police don't do interviews to press so much.I'm Japanese. Someone put the comment about Japanese jail cost. I searched foods in Japanese jail. Not so bad. Their jail cost is paid by Japanese tax. I can't forgive it as for this case. In Japan there are lots of low-income people after the economy crisis American made but they pay tax and some people eat more bad foods than jail foods…Anyway hope to be more clear especially Blackston things and if Hinds call to someone after he killed her.
Please google Japan torture confessions. You will find tons of articles on the subject. nearly everyone arrested in Japan confesses. It is a worldwide humanitarian issue. Japan recently made some slight changes to their "justice" system but the torture aspects remain. Again, I am not saying Hinds is innocent. I do not know. I am saying I put no credibility on a confession made to Japanese police.
You have no evidence to suggest that this man was tortured in police custody. Therefore you have no grounds to make such a completely outrageous statement. If you have such evidence to suggest he was tortured then you publish it. He was found in the room with the dead girl, she had been stangled and he has confessed. End of story.
Obviously at their age, they want to go out, party, etc. However, they are in another country. Did they not know, nor talked to by family or managers that there is danger in situations like this, or acting out, etc. Right now we don't know the truth. But, I'm willing to bet someone let things go too far and they were working on "american" mindsets (meaning an attorney would show up in 10 minutes and bail their ass out of jail). I still think they wanted to have fun, party, etc. and things got out of hand. They realized they were in another country, and, wrongly, assumed they could get away with 'something'. Even if our 'young man' was trying to do the right thing, ignorance is not grounds for avoiding a law & a penalty. Bad seed or not, if there is true proof (and down there who knows) of wrong doing, everyone might be gone for a while. My opinion, whether you agree or not.
I've always had that feeling about this. I too think there is more to the story. The facts just don't line up to me. I get he was alone in a room with a strangled girl. I do. But it just doesn't feel right to me. Had it been Blackston in the room, after investigating the background of both boys, I could take the "evidence" more seriously.Think of it this way, what if your son who you had raised well and had no criminal history and a good reputation in the community got his first break to tour overseas. While there he hooked up with a bad seed that has a bad reputation. They went out together and two girls were in trouble. What should he do when the other guy wants to take the girls home? What if the other guy drugged her (he is not charged with anything like this, but this is a hypothetical). If we assume that our young man is a nice guy, he might wheel her to the room. He might try to keep her safe. In a couple of hours he would not do anything to harm her and if as reports say he called the front desk for an ambulance. What more could you expect from a 19 yr old? I just want to see the right person punished for Nicola's death. I am going to need to see more evidence than a confession. They torture you until you confess in Japan so that means nothing. The strangulation could have happened in the taxi. When Hinds was in the front seat. Or he could be a mad rapist who just waited until the best part of his life to randomly strangle someone. I can't decide.
I wish someone would interview this kid Hinds. I want to know the true story. In my gut, it feels like there's so much more to this story. How scary.
